    Description:
Sometimes, as we go about with our lives, we all happen to think of one specific thought at least once.
What if… I could go back to “that” time?
The funny thing is, the moment you think such a thought is the precise moment when you came back to the past, from the future.
    “One more time.”
    Life, once again.

This series has around 1000+ chapters, and a 200+ chapters of epilogue, so do forgive me if I don't completely and correctly recall the order of events in the series. I spent around 2-3 weeks reading the entire series. :blobsweat:

After Maru played the villain for the club to band together, they try for another competition with a new skit. This time, Maru gets a minor acting role. This is where Maru's talent begins to shine. Maru, Geunseok, and Daemyung also get into contracts(?) with Lee Junmin, who is the president of JA Productions. Daemyung gets some scholarship for college, and Geunseok gets an acting coach called Suyeon, who is an actress known for being seductive to men. As for Maru, he negotiates with Junmin and ends up getting 300 million won as insurance for his future if he fails in his acting career. Maru also gets an acting coach, and joins an acting workshop too.

The problem is, Geunseok falls in love with Suyeon, and his gf, Yurim, gets jealous and goes full yandere mode, like, if I can't have you, then I won't let you succeed in the competition. Yurim ends up trying to burn all the stage props on the day before the drama competition. However, Maru manages to put out the fire and save the props, at the cost of being hospitalized and getting a cast. He ends up not getting to perform in the competition because of that. Maru and Miso tries to figure out who the culprit was, and eventually catches Yurim. I think Geunseok and Yurim had already broken up at that point, and Yurim's parents transfer her to another school after they found out about the incident. The other club members never figured out that it was Yurim who was the culprit, except for Yurim's friend, who accidentally witnessed Yurim confessing to Maru that she did it.

During Maru's second year in the club, their seniors became 3rd years and became club members by name only. Other members had also quit, such as joining other clubs, which left the club with not enough members required for a club. So, Maru and Daemyung ended up trying hard to recruit new members. Geunseok gets into another argument with Maru and tries to create his own club, but eventually fails, so Geunseok ends up quitting the club altogether. Maru manages to get new members to fill the club vacancies, but because of their poor club performance, the club loses their use of the auditorium. The club had used that place partly as a storeroom for all their props and costumes, so Maru ends up contacting Junmin, who buys them a used container van for their club to store their props. During their practice for a competition, Geunseok tries to get his revenge on Maru by opening the container van and splashing paint on the props they were going to use. However, Maru figures out that Geunseok was the culprit because his shoes still had some paint left over it. Maru tells on Junmin about Geunseok's behavior, and Geunseok loses his contract with Junmin.

Geunseok isn't really a completely bad guy. He was a product of child abuse from his dad, who is one of the big villains from the middle to the end of the series. His dad is a control freak, gets violent when he is angry (he once placed a dog in a sack and beat the dog until it died), and is involved with the entertainment business too (and also into sex trafficking of young actresses to high-profile people). Geunseok is really afraid of his dad, who beats him up if he didn't obey what his dad wants.

His dad was against his acting stint because of Geunsoo, Geunseok's older brother, who spent 10 years in the acting business without any popular roles. It was only when Geunsoo finally gets recognized in his career and introduces Junmin to his dad that the dad allows Geunseok to continue his acting because Junmin says that Geunseok has potential. His fight with Maru during their 2nd year ends up with Maru telling on Junmin about Geunseok's behavior, which prompts Junmin to cut off his contract with Geunseok. Junmin had talked to Geunseok's dad, and the dad was forced to apologize for Geunseok's bad behavior. His dad, who hated bowing his head to other people, ends up beating Geunseok with a golf club. Geunsoo eventually rescues his own brother from their household, and raises him himself. Geunseok exits the story here, but Maru gets to hear bits of Geunseok from Geunsoo, that Geunseok was slowly recovering from his child abuse PTSD and has lived a normal life now.

To all the people asking if this is an acting-related series, the answer is yes. As I posted in the LCD, the entire series is about Maru's journey as an actor, from the drama club to the entertainment business. Even in the epilogue, Maru still chooses to go on the acting route, so to those who aren't into acting series, unfortunately, this series isn't for you.

I'll write about the reincarnation thing and his wife on another post, as that is really long and contains spoilers for the entire series, like, that grandma stuff was just made up, and that white woman's real identity.

And is the father will be a villain like in a more direct way or is he just like the mastermind and manipulative?

    I'm a girl.

Dojin does not get any contract from Junmin. He will quit the club on their 2nd year. It's because he fell in love with one of the club members (I forgot her name) whose family owns a diner/restaurant. He apprentices as a cook there, and thus quit the club. When he graduated from HS, he didn't go to college as he began to work full-time there.

His dad is the manipulative type and one of the masterminds of the sex trafficking ring. He is considered a villain because he destroyed the life of a snooping female reporter investigating his shady dealings. Her male senior, who then works for JA Productions, tries to help her recover and get justice. Maru, who is friends with that senior, helps them too, as Maru's gf (his wife in his 1st life) was bullied by an old female actress, who is involved in the sex trafficking ring too. Maru works in the background though, so even when Geunsook's dad and the actress were prosecuted, neither knew of Maru's involvement the entire time.

As for the mom, she was something like a contract wife. She never got into any fights with him because she only fulfilled her obligations as a wife and mom so he finds her a convenient wife. However, she rarely appears or is mentioned in the story, implying that she turns a blind eye to the abuse of her 2 children. When Geunsook's dad was hit by the sex trafficking scandal, the two readily divorced like it was nothing.

As for Maru's wife, it's going to be long so I'll post about it some other time. To give you a basic idea, she is the reason why Maru got stuck in a vicious reincarnation cycle.

Is there a reason he’s reincarnating again? The spoiler in the lcd said this is his 19,999th reincarnation.

Here's a summary of the reincarnation game that Maru's wife started. It's quite long though so be prepared.

Maru's wife is called Han Han-eul (Han-eul means sky). In his 1st life, bus driver Maru died and the reaper of death appeared to his wife. She asks the reaper if Maru could live again. The reaper agrees to let Maru live again, in exchange, she becomes only an observer. So Maru goes through his first reincarnation, meets his wife again, and then dies again. His wife who was now an observer (let's call her OG wife), can only watch Maru relive his life again. Being an observer means that while Sky exists, interacts, and moves independently in Maru's reincarnation, OG wife who is the observer cannot control the body of Sky. Which means there are always two Han Han-euls in every reincarnation (the OG wife and Sky). They are the same person but are separated from each other. OG wife can only watch Maru's life again as if she was watching a movie.

Maru is aware that he reincarnated, but he doesn't know it was his wife who was responsible for it. Maru ends up marrying Sky again and have a child with her. However, a house fire broke out and Maru dies a 2nd time. The reaper then tells OG wife that this was a game. The game conditions are:
    • The starting point is Maru's life in HS.
    • Every time he dies without achieving the victory conditions, he gets sent back to the starting point.
    • Every time he gets sent back to the starting point, Maru will only remember his life before the reincarnation game began, which was his life as a bus driver. He cannot remember his lives in the past reincarnations.
    • Only Maru can know what the victory conditions are. OG wife and Sky do not know it.
    • Maru has to figure out himself what the victory conditions are.
    • If they fulfil the victory condition, the game ends and Maru and OG wife will be allowed to reincarnate back to HS but this time, get a happy ending.
    • OG wife is an observer, but every time Maru is at the starting point, OG wife is required to act as a guide to Maru and explain that he got reincarnated. However, Maru will not know who she is.
    • OG wife will be given a choice to end the game if Maru and Sky end up marrying other people.
OG wife signs the contract for the game and Maru's 3rd life begins. This time, he dies from pancreatic cancer. She meets the reaper again, and ask him if she can change her physical appearance when she appears to Maru as a guide. The reaper allows it and OG wife dresses up in a white suit like that of the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland (meaning, she is the white lady at the beginning of this novel).

The 4th life begins. This time, Maru dies from a traffic accident. In his 6th life, the grim reaper gives OG wife a diary, and she uses it to record the number of times Maru dies.

In his 87th life, OG wife is still fine and hopeful to win.

In his 294th life, OG wife had already come up with a classification of Maru's behavior such as A, B, C, and D. In all his 294 lives, Maru still ends up marrying Sky.

In his 698th life, OG wife forgets what her mom's name was because she always called her 'mom'. She looks through their stuff and finds a book with the author named Choi Hae-soo. She knows that it is her mom's name and realizes that she didn't forget it but that she has just become indifferent.

In his 1928th life, OG wife has also come up with classifications about Sky. She also writes crucial details about her husband's life and their child, and of Maru's cause of death and his age at that time.

In his 4824th life, OG wife's writings had become shorter. She only writes Maru and Sky's classifications, their daughter's status, and Maru's cause of death.

In his 5429th life, OG wife only writes his cause of death.

In his 6700th life, OG wife questions herself if she was the right person.

In his 7420th life and onwards, OG wife no longer records anything but the number of reincarnations.

In his 7422th life, OG wife wants to die. She does not feel any hope or despair, but simply just wants to die. OG wife decides to try changing her approach as a guide. However, something occured. "It" appeared inside Maru and lived inside him.

230 times after "it" appeared, OG wife realized that "it" was another Maru that is apart from the reincarnated Maru (let's call it aMaru).

350 times after aMaru's appearance, OG wife realizes that aMaru was also an observer like her and watches Maru's life every time he reincarnates. aMaru recalls Maru's reincarnations. aMaru can talk to Maru but his words are limited. OG wife cannot interact with aMaru.

400 times after aMaru appeared, aMaru began to wear a mask. aMaru distinguished himself as a different personality and still talks to Maru.

408 times after aMaru appeared, aMaru notices OG wife's existence.

409 times after aMaru appeared, aMaru talks to OG wife. aMaru figures out that OG wife is like him and is repeating every thing too. OG wife has become so indifferent that she had already forgot why this game even started. However, aMaru reassures her, and hints that he figured out the victory conditions to the game. He tells OG wife that this might be the last time and he'll win the game this time.

410 times after aMaru appeared, aMaru began to intervene in Maru's life. He guides Maru to certain actions and situations. However, Maru dies from being "hit" over by a car (he is actually murdered by a chaebol and actor named Giwoo). The grim reaper appears and says that they won and the game ends. They have repeated this game 19,999 times (yes, even I'm confused by the numbering. I mean, 7422+410=7832 but it says 19999. Perhaps I mistook something or mtl is just confusing me.). OG wife is allowed to reincarnate together with Maru, but she asks the reaper if Maru will get killed by Giwoo again. The reaper explained that Maru realized the victory conditions of the game, which is that Maru chooses to die himself, aka suicide.

OG wife asks what she'll do then if Maru dies again. The reaper explains that one person must live and one person must die. The reaper gives an example of someone similar to OG wife, who is Jeong Ju, an observer too. Jeong Ju wins the game too, and when she relives her life, she chooses to die to save Junmin, the person who continuously got reincarnated (About Junmin, he is the CEO of JA Productions, the company that Maru signed an acting contract with. Just like Maru getting a cheat of reading people's thoughts in a bubble, Junmin gets a cheat of distinguishing talented actors through seeing them in different colors. That's why JA is one of the elite companies in the entertainment business). Jeong Ju permanently disappears.

The reaper then tells OG wife that she can now interact with Sky then, and guide Sky like how aMaru did to Maru. So the 20,000th reincarnation begins. This time, OG wife has a choice to commit suicide. aMaru talks to OG wife and they decide that they should end this. However, OG wife hears god's voice and she complains to god. The god explains that he only gave the opportunity but it has a price. OG wife manages to come up with a compromise with god to get out of the ending (either she or Maru dies). And thus, OG wife and aMaru's struggle begins to change the ending. aMaru appears to Maru as a masked man and OG wife appears to Sky as the white rabbit in Alice of Wonderland. This last time is actually the beginning of the story/novel. So Life, Once Again! is about Maru's 20,000th life.

The past repeats again. Maru realizes how to end the game. Before the accident happens, time stops and god talks to aMaru and OG wife again. aMaru this time tries to convince the god to end the game and give them a happy ending. aMaru chooses to save Maru, and OG wife chooses to erase Sky's name from Maru's memory, thereby "killing" Sky. OG wife will then become Sky. The god permits it and time continues with Maru getting killed by Giwoo again. But this time, the god reincarnates them with the happy ending they wanted. This time, Maru remembers his multiple reincarnations but cannot remember Sky's name. OG wife is now Sky herself. And finally, the two meet again, but this time, as college students and not in high school. Maru remembers Sky's name at their meeting.

The novel ends here and the epilogue is about their happy ending. In the happy ending, they both choose the acting route again. Because the two met in college, Maru never went to the drama club in high school. What makes me happy is Jeong Ju and Junmin are both alive in this life and they have their own happy ending too.

Yes, he'll die again by the end of the series. Even I was surprised when after Maru gets killed near the end, the story perspective switches to his wife and the chapters revealing the reincarnation game begins. The last reincarnation, which is the happy ending granted to them, is the story in the epilogue chapters.

Not gonna lie, the ending kinda makes what's currently going on with the story insignificant.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. For example, in the main story, Miso ends up marrying the teacher, but in the epilogue, she's still single. There's also no mention of the drama club members in the epilogue except for Daemyung. However, the reincarnation game had been foreshadowed since the beginning. We just didn't realize it yet. Somewhere in the story when he becomes an actor, the masked man (aMaru) appears to Maru, so I don't think the author just randomly pulled that ending. It's been planned from the beginning.

Unlike in the reincarnation game, Maru and his wife didn't go back into their HS years. The two suddenly found themselves in their college years, and their HS years turned out differently. There were also a lot of differences, such as characters taking a different route in life. Maru was still friends with Daemyung but they never joined the drama club. Maru and Sky quit/dropped out of college and decided to pursue acting careers again. Maru started by applying for extra roles, while Sky became a beauty product promoter/endorser (she approached a company and offered to boost their sales through social media promotion, and used herself as a model). Maru eventually accepted for a short film that a college team was making as an entry for a film festival. Maru became the sole actor for it, and that short film eventually won the grand prize of the film fest.

Because of that, he caught the eye of Junmin again, who offered a contract for JA Productions. Of course, Maru accepted it, and he later found out that Junmin was married in this life, meaning him and Jeong Ju got their happy ending like Maru and Sky did. Maru took on small roles first, before he became a voice actor/narrator for a nature documentary, and eventually, a life/person documentary series. He also became a recurring guest for a radio show, hosted by Suyoon, another JA talent (his senior). As Maru became friends with writers and producers from the small roles he took, a broadcasting company who decided to enter the drama industry by creating a new drama lineup for their channel, offered Maru to become its lead actor. Maru, together with Geunsoo (Geunsook's older brother and another JA talent) and another famous actor, became the lead stars of this new drama. The drama became incredibly popular as it was a "first" in the present industry (it was a detective/mystery thriller with something supernatural in it), and Maru became a popular because of it.

On the other hand, Sky applied to a drama school and eventually signed a contract with another company. In her first movie role, the movie flopped because it was noticeably rushed and of one of the actor's scandal. Maru also gained a stalker, who was so in love with him that when she found that Maru had a girlfriend, she copied everything about Sky, hoping to become like her and make Maru fall in love with her. Maru eventually declined her affections and stopped her runaway. Sky managed to redeem herself as an actress in several roles, and thus, ended up catching the eye of Junmin too and signing a new contract with JA Productions.

Maru and the director of the film which won the grand prize, met up again and they decide to create a new short film. Maru sponsored the film, and he was the lead actor again. There were several actors too and he meets Ark again, one of his juniors in his previous life's drama club. This new film eventually wins in an international film festival, and several more international film fests. The director became popular, and so did Maru.

Maru and Sky eventually got Daemyung to help in writing about "their story". Daemyung in the main story had eventually became a writer, so Maru had thought that Daemyung still had that talent in writing in this life and thus brought him in. Of course, Maru and Sky starred as the main actors of this drama/movie (I forgot which). Eventually, the two got married and had their daughter, Autumn again. The ending of the epilogue was about Autumn in her teenage years (?) and that her parents were popular actors.

Wow I read the first 60 chapters and was quite happy with what I thought was a nice, happy, slice of life story. From the spoilers though it sounds this get twisted 180 degrees. So can anyone tell me why the God decide to do this - sounds pretty sadistic to put someone through 20,000 reincarnations. Did Maru or the wife accidentally run over God's favorite puppy?

In the main story, Maru's sister and Dowook end up dating, but in the epilogue, they didn't. In the epilogue, she tried to be an actress and joins auditions, but she fails. And his parents are still alive and do not die in the story even in the epilogue.

I've read until the translated chapter 160 and I can't seem to remember sky/og wife's name. Was it ever mentioned?
