So, i have an extra HDD 2.5 lying around. I want to install a linux distro in it. But after a quick research, i found out that many of nowdays distro's using 64bit system. i don't want to use em as i don't want to service my laptop trice per semester cuz of overheat and bluescreen... Back to the point, for those who prefer to using linux OS rater than Win's or Mac's, which distro that light enough and have recent update in 2018. Also if you could, please make it a GUI.. In the past i used to install Backtrack, BT2, Ubuntu, BlankOn( Ubuntu that created by Indonesian ), Kali and then the last one is LinuxMint (ver. Lisa). most of em make my laptop looks gone wrong... so, now i want to carefully pick and installed a proper one for a 32bit system.. please help me..
Centos 6, as long you dont really need latest GUI and dont mind outdated packages Edit: Lubuntu still support 32 bit cpu on 18.04 LTS
I've used Linux mint for my grandma. It has a very windows user friendly UI, and runs very well with limited hardware.
I doubt you need any help actually when you mention used Backtrack.....Use Ubuntu for daily life usage is enough...If you want for just core I think you can try Parrot Os as the community is quite good too...Or just go YouTube an see people review as we can't say much when u just mention JUST hard drive only and nothing else....
i was recommended to use centos or arch by my friend some time ago. but, yeah rise my hand before the download began as internet at that time were really really sucks... i m8 be try to look for lubuntu tomorrow as my current wi-fi barely able to play YT witout buffer on hd(in midnite) well, imma using BT for my study in Uni as it's part of tool that's needed to. and it's around 5-6 years ago...
That's a not so bad notebook. +1 lubuntu, if you can tolerate the GUI, puppy linux is light. Otherwise, with pacience install arch linux
i kinda like Puppy Linux for old Laptops runs on any old potato and has many good distros i think AttackPup is what you need ;.)
Linux Mint 19 Mate (Mate has the lightest GUI out of linux mint choices). I would suggest against CentOS, I like CentOS for servers, but it isn't meant for desktop. That is what Fedora is for. But if your goal is mostly to surf the web, then maybe CloudReady Chrome OS is the better option.
Backtrack linux https://www.backtrack-linux.org/ PS. hmm, it's been 5 years since BT became Kali. so i used to installed em around 6-7 years ago? forget it..
