What are your requirements? Usage? Screen size? Be more specific. Otherwise you'll get advice all over the board.

Do you have any knowledge about specs like CPU, HDD and SSD?
If you do you could look for an older model with a good CPU and a removable HDD which you replace with an SSD for the upgrade in speed.
If you don't mind the extra work you could end up with better specs + equal speed and price compared to newer models.

@op if you live in the US(not sure if other countries are like this) you can look up a nearby university and look for their surplus. you can get a couple year old stuff really cheep. just make sure it works before you buy it. Its not uncommon to find macbooks or other laptops going for 50 USD.

Hmmm...I care mostly for usage. I will mostly do classwork on it. It would be nice if I could play a basic game on it (not necessary though). I would also prefer to have a lighter laptop with good battery life. I think it would be better to have something under 17".

ok yah the first laptop i linked will do you fine and can hand less graphics intensive games but i really do recommend the second one. it will feel a lot faster because it has a ssd rather then a hdd and while it has less storage space, its 2017 everything is stored in the "cloud"
