Recommendations Looking for a necromancer novel

So want to write a fanfic on a necromancer but am having trouble starting it as well as how to grow his powers so i wanted to know if there are any good novels that has a necromancer as its base.

they can also be someone that uses weapons like a Death Knight, but mainly uses their necromancy

I don't know bout a novel completely based on necromancers but the Legendary Moonlight Sculptor had a part where necromancers had a quest and there were decent descriptions on powers and what kinda undead they can raise. can't remember which volume it was though

Warlock in the Magus World has a different look at necromancy. It is going into soul restoration. May give you some ideas.

Gail z. Martin The Chronicles of the Necromancer is a good series with at least 5 good length books.

 

I'm going to guess that you've read it, but if you haven't, Overlord seems like something you would be interested in, although necromancy isn't the main theme.

After awhile, the MC becomes a summoner which controls souls and can create soul bound golems and transfer souls to different bodies. Much later he can reincarenate souls. Also one of the heroines becames a necromancer creating skeletons, zombies and intelligent undead as the story continues. However, the story is very 18+ and explicit and includes necrophila (which helps to speed up the creation of undead in this world).

 

Demon's Diary is a good one. Although, it is more like capturing a spirit and refining it into a weapon using a spell or taming an undead or corrupted soul into a loyal follower. There aren't really a lot of novels depicting Necromancers as MC that much. Or if there are, it is just plain crap. Another suggestion would be as AicilaXI suggested which is Overlord!

Alterworld series (Play to Live, Clan), Zombie Knight, LMS, Necromancer (RRL fanfic)

 

Try to play ToME (**Tales of Maj'Eyal) if you want inspiration they have a fairly interesting progression on the necromancer class and you can actually go all the way to lich if you actually survive that long.

 

warlock of the magnus world is the best i can recommend... Its mage/warlock theamed...

For now it can only give you some ideas since its quite mage generic, but the novel is getting darker, so later on it might be quite what you look for.

Also, a necromancer huh... the god of high and almighty ainz sama is the one i can think of (from Overlord), necromancer mc is pretty hard to search...

I'm not certain the third book in the series will ever come out, but the first one gave me quite a few chuckles. He's a light mage who desperately wants to be a necromancer and make his mother proud. But sadly, no matter how he acts like one, he can't help but be good.
