Well yeah, basically. Once the translator finishes translating, he/she hands it over to the editor to check it for grammar mistakes, usage of words, etc., or they do it themselves.

Some people think it’s just more work for them so they decided to just hand that part to other people to do for them.

The translator can hire and pay the editor to do the said above for them, or they can have a friend help them with it.

 

Not really. Editor is slightly more involved and should work closely with the translator because the job entails keeping the author's voice in the translated-version of their novel, re-working scenes so that it captures what was being portrayed.

 

I sent a request a couple of days ago and still have not been accepted.

 

I actually found this thread by googling Larbre Studios" because i was just dying to find out why the translator for God Emperor changed...i don't want to rip on the new TL too much as the translation is at least way above MTL (not a high bar tho) but they should at least get a decent editor or something...many names (techniques, places, people) were changed (in a worse way), the sentences are sometimes really broken, many elementary school mistakes and not every now and then - every chapter. I get headaches reading it...
