Try this: Samayou Shinki no Duelist It's discontinued at 2 volumes, but those two volumes are really good in my opinion. Just think of it as an open ending or the sort, where you're unsure who the enemy is and what is going to happen now. (That in it's own way is a mysterious and cool ending too.) What you'd consider a "twist" in this story might not really be an unexpected twist, but the big reveals that happen in both volumes in this novel really blew my mind when I read it...which was when I was 13, it was one of my first light novels, so I might either be biased or maybe my experience reading good stories were still lacking so I automatically placed this high on my ratings. But I'd say it truly made my heart race that time when the truth of their world was revealed and when the truth of what happened to the dead goddess was revealed. And it ended on a really creepy note too. Maybe it's good that it ended there cause as they say, you stop being scared of the unknown once it becomes known. So letting it stay unknown what they're up against and what they are heading towards might have its own impact. Read it if you want to.
