I've always been interested in relationships and bonds, platonic ones(but romance is okay as long as there is one Love interest). Recently I came across Horimiya and I found myself loving it not for the romance but the awesome chemistry they all had with each other. It wasnt awkward and they all stood on equal grounds. Unlike most shounens where it's all a power hiarchy. To use a popular example, One Piece has an amazing cast of characters, especially the Straw Hats. I love their dynamic. Unfortunately lately it's been all about their individual battles and I don't really see it that often. So to put it simply I'm looking for a Manga/Manhwa/Mahua(not cultivation) that featured a main group with interesting interactions. Here's how I want it: No Harem or Reverse Harem or an obvious increase of one gender in the group.(Okay tbh more male characters isn't too bad if their not cringy shoujo) Genres I don't want: Yaoi/Yuri/Shoujo ai/Shounen ai/Gender Bender/Smut/Ecchi/(any porn) I know that most mangas featuring groups are Romance but I'd still prefer no romance. If you know a good romance than: - It can't be the blushy type where everyones blushing all the time - Please no Love triangle, if so it can't be the dragging on and on type and would end soon. - FL or ML aren't always thinking only of each other and think of other things besides romance - It focuses more on Friendship than Romance - Think of Horimiya, that kind of Romance I can totally enjoy I'm fine with all types of Asian Comics(webtoons included) Preferably Male MC, but FMC is fine too. Genres I like: Horror, Thriller, Psychological, Action, Comedy(I love this genre when it comes to friendships), Shounen(when the MC is not some Justice abiding idiot who yells all the time), Fantasy(I like worldbuilding ) I'd prefer decent art, definitely not the '80s and '90s mangas Oh and of course, a likeable MC(you guys decide what a likeable MC is to you . Here are some I've read(That I could think of at the moment): Tokyo Manji Revengers Horimiya One Piece(hopefully not as long) Re:Life Gintama Gekken no Shoujo Thanks to all the people who will reply!
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun - It's in a 4-koma format, but it works well because it's comedy. It has the "romance" tag on mangadex, but honestly, it's such a slow-burn... There are definite ships though. It's just questionable if those ships will actually sail, instead of hanging around the harbor and teasing us. It's like Horimiya (school setting), but with less romance and more comedy. Oresama Teacher - Same author as the one above and has even less romance despite the tag. However, it has fight scenes and MC being a lovable idiot who ends up befriending a lot of outcasts due to her personality. Dungeon Meshi - A group of friends try to save MC's sister in a dungeon... and enjoy wonderful meals made from monsters....
Danshi koukousei no nichijou? Gekkan shoujo no nozaki kun is not bad either its like a gag manga in shoujo drawing style?
I watched the anime too and read the manga from the beginning and still enjoyed it. I recommend starting from the beginning but the anime ends at chapter 77 if you want to know
Seto Utsumi is a really funny one imo. Not really a group bond thing but it revolves around the friendship of two guys with opposite personalities. Like they’re pretty normal when they separated but once they’re together they’re frikin idiots I love them. Their circle does grow though. Kinda.
When it comes to manga with great friendship, what I like the most was Gon and Killua from hunterxhunter though, hahahaha. Their relationship was just so solid and enviable XD. But as for group of friends, Haikyuu was the only thing that came to my mind. I just loved it sooo much! Even their friendshi-rivalry is good. And oh, "Anohana".. It's drama though.
Anohana. There's a love triangle, though. Also, it's an anime. I'm not sure if there's a manga, but there's a novel of it.
Sorry, I’m back with more lol Itsuwaribito Utsuho is a really good shounen. Group gradually expands as they journey. You might like Binbougamiga too. Action/comedy with FMC. There is romance but it’s really on the side imo Espirit is a shounen I think? Action/comedy with FMC, hints of romance Spoiler but it doesn’t sail. Memesis is just suuuper funny. Lots of unnecessary fanservice but I think it makes things funnier. Action/comedy/fantasy. The two mains truly have QUITE the bond lol
You're looking for friendship manga? SKET Dance is the answer. Extremely funny, very likable MC & other characters, interesting stories. Already finished with surprisingly proper ending for a comedy-school life manga. Recommended
It's been a long time so it's unclear but Yankee-kun to Megane-chan. It's comedy/school life/fighting. The group is gradually built up through the beginning chapters. I liked how they're all decent people at heart. There is a higher than normal rate of idiots in the main group so it's funny seeing the unexpected ways they approach things sometimes. There is a high number of important characters outside the main group too. After reading a few reviews to refresh my memory, I remembered the ending is not good, but everything else is really great.
How about, Dear only you don't know ( webtoon), the setting is not school though Blue hearts ( same author from Re:Life) Kusumi-Kun, Kuuki Yometemasu ka? (Comedy, and fun to read)
Senryuu Girl? The MC is attractive to a lot of the girls in the series, but everyone except the main girl gets rejected, and it focuses more on comedy than romance, anyway.
