I don't really know if this is a bug, but I notice that about half of the novels I read, do not have the marking chapter function working. What I mean is: Where the chapters are highlighted blue, and you put a check in the box of the chapter, and the blue disappears, letting you know the last chapter you've read. It also tells you where you stopped when viewing in your list. I've tried checking the boxes on the ones that don't have the highlight, but when I come back on, the check is back at the very first chapter, not letting me know where I had stopped off (and when viewing the list it reads as the first chapter). And yes, most of these are on active novels. I'd list them, but too many to list. And yes, I've looked for a way to activate, or deactivate on the novels, but I don't see anything. I searched the forums, but the last thing I see is from 2015, and it shows something that I see is no longer available. Please help.
any chance you're are using any kind of apps? if no, then if you remember the most recent novels which this issue happens, can you cross-check the logs and tell us what you see?i mean whether it matched what you did. https://www.novelupdates.com/reading-list-logs/ for example, my last check was on c196, then when i checked c341, this is what the log will looks like

Back to your issue, could you maybe screenshot your global settings and list settings for a list with novels that don't update? But do you start off like chapter 100, and it brings you to chapter 1, or do you start with ch1, try to update to 100 and it does not? A screenshot of your logs would be nice too. I'd say make sure you have scripts enabled for novelupdates.com and ajax.googleapis.com, but that'd cause problems for all novels, not just some.

Okay, that worked for that, but what about, if you notice, some have a little book at the end. When I mouse over, it says, "Show me chapters I haven't read." Yeah, I thought about that earlier too, but enabling manual list didn't move the tick to the first release. It either hid it from display or worked normally (depending on where you clicked), but it also disabled release highlighting, which he said works. On the novels page only. Oh you meant on all novels. It disappears once you're caught up.
Manual Reading List is per-list setting. any list that you still see the 'pencil' icon, means that it is still a manual list as for the book icon, it will not show up for novels that you have already checked the latest release
Okay, I don't see where on the novel's page, but it looks like all of the ones listed are working properly. I'm going through each list's settings now to make them all the same now. Thank you so much for your help. Do you or I set this topic as solved?
Wow this solved my problem too. I had a similar problem before. Before that I could not find the place where I had finished reading and I was troubled countless times. Thanks for the info guys.
