Question Mentality of BL haters

I'm a lurker, or more like The Lurker. I think this is my first post? But I'm getting really curious about something... (and it's actually a serious question)

When I see a new series on NU (1-2 chapters) I check it. Usually it doesn't have any reviews or ratings - logical. Buuuuut... When it's a BL novel, it automatically gets 1-stars. So you are BL hater, I get it, that's not the point.

The point is... what is the purpose? To persuade people to not read those novels because they have bad ratings? Well, I sometimes do search for novels by ratings, so maybe that works.
Also, about the process: you see a BL tag and you click 1-star just like that? Or do you read the description or first chapter?

Well, I got curious bc my friend says, if it has BL tag she reads it, and only drops it if it's bad (as there are few translated BL novels on NU), so she doesn't look at ratings.

[edit] I see the discussion is getting off track... substitute BL with any, let's say, 'questionable' genres/tags. Do you rate novels just bc of it, without reading? What's the point, just trolling?

Nah, that happens to all the novels, people are trolls.

 

Well, you need to understand that the rating system is inherently flawed because of things like this. Similar to BL, people will also auto-rate 1star for novels that have NTR, or cliche Japanese isekai novels... there's no stopping people from rating what they don't like. At some point you'll just realize that 1-2 stars happen and ignore them.

 

Not just because it's a BL novel.
There are readers who goes around putting 1 star because of boredom.
That's why I highly encourage everyone to at least try a chapter or two. ^^
I mean at least give the novel a chance. ^^

 

That's most probably because BL is gay.

 

Maybe they should force a person to write a review, you know to combat the trolls, and with this they can ban the "trolls"

 

Yeah, i see yaoi tags and i leave the page, but some people have to go the extra mile to ruin it for everyone who enjoys it. Same the for ntr tags. People dont even read it, they just 1 star it. It might not even be that bad of an ntr, but the tags can ruin the ratings

There are people that do that for all sorts of genres, or even if a novel is done by certain groups example - Qidan novels seem to get a lot of 1 star ratings as an example even on the better ones.

 

i don't really rate novels unless i've 1) read atleast 50 chapters and 2) it's either absolute shit or really good
for example i read god and devil world to chapter 200 or so i think and i thought it was absolute shit at that point despite it having a good early couple of chapters that i would've rated 4. Right now my rating on it is 1

 

Reasons for 1 Star ratings by people:

• don't like any of the tags
• don't like the translator
• don't like the publisher
• don't like the author
• don't like anything new
• don't like themselves
• don't like <insert whatever>
• ...

 

They're not very bright people. They have no purpose for doing it~

I don't rate or give reviews for novels. If I see a BL tag I won't read it. Simple as that. I won't do anything else. Just forget the novel~

It's like justifying their 1 star by saying unrelated things when we should be focusing on the novel's content. I mean I can give 2 star if the translation's too weird.

 

I never even look at the ratings for a story...
the first thing I look at are it's tags and genre's, then I look at how many chapters it has and how often it updates. those are the only things I use to consider whether to pick up the story or not. How long I read it is another matter entirely.

 

Well if I see a Yaoi tag I just put it in my hidden list. But I'm pretty it also happens in some other tags like rape, harem, op from the start, 18+, fanfiction and lolicon. Because everyone got their own taste.

 

I mean, better BL than any other genre, right?
And telling people not to rate a novel 1 star, not to give them a bad review etc.. is dumb. Nobody is going to listen to you anyway. Not to mention anyone can do whatever they want. If someone hates BL, I don't see anything with him/her giving 1 star to a BL novel. Since rating system is there for people to show other how much they enjoy or like that novel.

 

I rarely rate novels, period.

Unless something really, really, really pisses me off about it, or I find it to be one of the best things I've ever read, I usually ignore it.

I read reviews sometimes, but most of my decision as to whether or not I'll read it is the description and first chapter.

I think people just have stuff that they don't like and their first instict is to immediately go to tell the world how much they hate that concept. It doesn't affect me, and I think the people who were going to read that novel, will read it regardless of one more 1 star than before, right?
