    So this is a continuation from the last thread (https://forum.novelupdates.com/thre...-love-shoujo-ai-and-yuri-to-girls-love.51398/) that pretty much died at November last year.

    That one has no poll. This one has, as I'd like to know public's choices.

    Below are some quotes from the last thread. I only took some, but more arguments can be seen from the thread. Since quotes doesn't include other's posts, so you might need to link it back to the original to see the posts they're addressing.

    As for my opinions on it, I push for the merge.
    It's tiring having to clean up things on NU by stubborn users who persistently tries to edit Yaoi into a Shounen Ai novel. You know that I have to hunt down spoilers or Raw source to check whether something is tagged correctly with Yaoi or Shounen Ai? Made even harder when author hid them on other sites. I can only do so much on phones. So just click Yes and then let's present it to Tony so she will be brainwashed to merge them.

    I disagree. I only see it as a mistag.

    If there is mature content, then Yaoi and Yuri should be used, and GL and BL should be deleted/should not appear.

    Didn't these terms come from japanese manga ? Then we should use them as such.

    ps : @LaDyViL you double-posted ! I couldn't stop myself from opening those spoilers on each posts e.e

    Yuri and shoujo ai are often used interchangeably but Yaoi always involves sex while shounen ai is more of a subtle romance.

    Disagree. I don't care that people commonly confuse them and add them inappropriately - even together! In my opinion, that's just their own damn problem, and, while we should definitely smack them upside the head and educate those poor plebians, we shouldn't make child-safety changes just to prevent their fuck ups.

    I think there should be be. Those tags are here for facilitate the search. If we go with the merging, wouldn't that be confusing for newbies coming from the manga community ?

    for those who not know about bl /yuri usually they run away from blatant Yaoi/Yuri genre

    I vote for yes!
    Because sometimes the translator(s) involved haven't finished reading the novel yet, and it isn't always blatantly stated at the original publisher (or at the author's page), which ends up with translator adding both.

    And imho, the concept of it is a bit vague as well. What do you consider as yaoi/yuri? Sex scene? But how about novel with 200+ chapters but only one mature scene? Does it still count as yaoi/yuri? And what about those novels with plenty of FTB smexy scenes? Will it be seen as sho-ai, even though there are many suggestive talks there?
    Ah well, these are my two cents anyway.

    Don't the other tags differentiate between them to begin with. I mean we have an adult tag along with the R15 and R18 tags

    TBH I'd much prefer if I could just filter genre for the type of story (BL/GL/Vanilla/etc) and have another filter for graphic sexual content/violence.
