Merging Yaoi + Shounen Ai and Yuri + Shoujo Ai into BL and GL

I agree too!! after all most yaoi also had shounen-ai tag, then what's the difference?
just merge them!!

 

It really doesn’t impact me that great if there was no distinction between yaoi, danmei or shounen ai, same for the GL side. I mean, tags are good to have an idea about the novel, but the reson you are even here at this site is ultimately to read the novel. And reading is about discovering the goodness/badness of the novel, you cannot use a cheat system to decide if the novel is good or bad... anyway, for me, using the bl and gl tag is enough because the other tags can be used for readers to decide if reading that particular novel is worth their time.
In short, i agree with just merging them...

I agree with combining them. However, why do we want to use Japanese term for it? Why not just use English term, which is Gay Romance and Lesbian Romance? That would be better, otherwise, there will always be people requesting the categories to be returned as they don't know why we retain this and get rid of the others.

Gay and lesbian are not dirty words, people should stop being cringy about them.

Ai-chan doesn't really have problem with it, though. Ai-chan only has problem when people say Boys Love and Shounen Ai (similar to shoujo ai) is the same thing. Sure, it literally translates into the same thing, but it doesn't mean the same thing. Boys Love is not age specific, Shounen Ai refers only to underaged boys, which translates it into "Loving underaged boys". It's time to do away with westerner's foolishness.

Honestly i agree with you. If we’re going to merge then the existing mature tags should be changed to NSFW and SFW cause let’s be real, the dividing line between r-15, r-18, mature, and adult are also vague. I once saw someone say that a chapter was NSFW when the chapter only had like a sentence vaguely describing that the characters had sex (like the super read in between the lines kind - the disappointment i felt that day haiz). Granted this also happens with the mature and adult tags -_-

On another note quite a lot of shounen ai with no sex have very embarrassing kissing scenes sometimes - like they may as well be labeled sex hahahah

Please do merge... I kinda already said why I wanted it on the other thread though, so I'm not gonna go too deep into it...

I just feel like there is no reason to keep them separate.

 

Never read BL and i never will, but yeah, merging them seems to be the better option here, NU tags is quite cluttered up honestly

Yeah, Smut, Mature, Adult, R-15, R18... There are plenty of things to use if you want to separate them both.

Besides, the raws don't use this kind of split anyway, they just use GL and BL.

Mmm...yea BL for boy love or GL for girl love with mature/smut tag for those explicit scenes is more detailed than just simply danmei or yaoi with shounen ai is confusing sometimes, in some cases even mangas are labeled yaoi but no actual explicit scenes so doing it this way is more informative.

Personally, I prefer descriptive tags, I would prefer to know if I'm gonna be reading shounen ai or yaoi...but considering how people are not that....well uhm knowledgeable when it comes to tagging shounen ai or yaoi even though they're two different thing =-= BL does seem a lot simpler.
I still vote for not merging tho. Just wish people would just learn the difference...

 

The difference has only ever existed in parts of a specific fan community, it's never been universal (SFW gay manga has been called yaoi in the US from the very beginning when it first started being translated) and the distinction has been nearly gone for years now.

 

Just drop the japanese term.
Boy's love and girl's love term is missleading as fuk for those readers who dont know jp weaboo stuff..
Its interprated as .. a boy in love or a girl in love.. first glance.

Agree to the merge, we can have other tags for explicit or non explicit novels

 

But sometimes, in some novels, the MC and ML were not even gay to start with I meant, they don't even like guys at the start
