Fake Happiness​

Abundance of food on the table. Bright and shining lamps on the ceiling. Smiles on all the people around you. But are they all the truth? Maybe there's a dark secret behind those blinding light and dazzling smiles. Maybe the happiness is just a staged story. What is behind the stage, one might ask?

As usual, we ask anyone participating to submit a short story (500-7500 words) based on that topic before the 15th of the month. Feel free to share/post your short story in the submission thread, and ask for criticism if you like!

May your story be as exciting and as unique as each and every one of you~! And may motivation come to you easily~!

FEBRUARY VOTING​

The next set of prompts done with the help of @shad12ow is here! The year sure went by fast and now we're already prepping for February!

1. Pin Drop: When the silence becomes so unbearable, even a "pin drop" can be heard. It echoes through the streets as you walk through the alley. What happens next?
2. Tangled: Escape felt like a far distant dream, that hazy world beyond the light so hard to see. How do you free yourself from the claws of virtual reality when it keeps dragging you in?
3. Tiles: One by one, they stack up together and support each other through all weather. If one starts cracking, will the foundation still be strong enough to protect what they hold dear?
4. Supporter: There will always be a main character. And they say everyone is their own story's main character. But how about them who has the role of supporting the main character? The wingmen. The advisor. The partner. What are their stories and their struggle?
5. Cyber Mask: They are known to be a happy and always supportive user. Ask them a question, they will answer. Ask them for assistance, they will answer. Makes you wonder hows' the real person behind that user, eh?

tfw everything sounds like a depression theme

 

For the Pin Drop theme, does it have to be in an alley? I mean, if it's just the Pin Drop moment, you can write about so many different situations, but if it has to be in an alley, it turns quite specific. Just think of comedy with that theme I voted for it anyways.
