Take breaks and have fun!
Nah, just go all out and isekai the MC.
Wow. It sounds interesting
But I have a question, is it more like the character wanted to leave VR world but something is stopping him? Or vice versa?
Both ways work! \(^^)/
You can write something for the themes of other months if you feel like it though, just put a heads up saying which theme it is if it's not the current one! >.<
When I saw the theme title instead of VR I thought of this:
It works too I guess? Whatever your creativity makes! \(^^)/
Thinking up ideas associated with the word is easy, but slip in VR and I'm all out of scenarios. Sci-fi-y themes aren't my strong suit, I've been stuck in the ancient past these days. Maybe another month~
I think you don't need to necessarily associate it with VR?
I think of a Virtual Reality as a fake reality, so it could be just your delusions, or maybe a magical world created by someone else.
I personally like the idea of it being a "reality" made entirety by your own views of what people do and think, but then you get crushed when you realize the whole of your reality was fake, and everything was just a virtual image you projected unto others, that is very far from the truth~
That is my take in it at least!
Replace "VR" with "dream world" and you're already in a fantasy story.
Too late! I'm already half-done with a VR story.
I've played enough MMOs that it doesn't take me more than a minute to come up with a VRMMO story idea... it gets tougher if the story has to be all-ages though.
And then not getting distracted for long enough to write the darn thing is the toughest part...
*nod nod nod*
I know the feeling, I usually write it in a single day at the last day for this exact reason... >.>
Haha, that's what I always did for English class assignments... I wrote about halfway through this short story and stopped on Thursday to run an errand, and now it's hard to pick up where I left off. >.< And then I spend half an hour going through adorable pictures for the perfect one to add to forum posts and run out of online time.
*grumbles about the like limit*
The pic is super cute though!!! >.<
But yeah, it's hard to pick up where you left off on those things! Especially on short stories, because you're not used to the character's feeling!!! orz
Assignments... I'm glad I'm over that, but I always did them in one day too... Just... Not worth the time to make them seriously.
Better finish as quickly as possible and be done with it.
I'm running out of interesting intros but here are things related to March! (inspiration from here LOL, cheers to @Bielt and @Osamaru who was forced to help make prompts) (Oops, I just realized it's APRIL voting not March LOL)
Out of Control: "I'm in control!" you shouted gleefully before your new subjects. Your revolution has ended in success and from here on, it'll be the easy and good life you had wanted and worked for all your life. Or so you hoped. (March 30 I Am in Control Day)
Walk: Today was your first step towards walking therapy. ....and it was frustrating... Not able to make even a step without falling... The anguish of not being able to walk... Much less run like you used to before the accident. (March 30 Take a Walk in the Park Day)
It's My Day: A year has passed since the end of the war, the day the Hero defeated the Demon Lord. To celebrate the much yearned for period of peace, a festival is held today, the Hero Festival - MY festival. (March 26 Make Up Your Own Holiday Day)
Valor: It was a massacre. A mad man took up his arms and brought the darkest horror to the world. But it was also they day in which you saw the brightest light in life. You recall that day as you stand by the grave of a stranger, one who you owe your whole life to. (March 18 Supreme Sacrifice Day)
Start: Tiny seed births a new life, a blossoming bud springing froth from the bitter snow. The promise of new beginnings and the reminder of what is to come. Tiny seeds, planted in our hearts, bringing forth new stories and new adventures, and the futures that they birth. (March 12 Plant a Flower Day)
Linger: The coffee we used to share, the song we used to sing, the blanket that fit us both perfectly inside it. All of it wraps around me tightly, clinging on to me with a power beyond my ability to bear. Like the lingering kiss we shared before we parted. (March 9 Get Over It Day)
Catastrophe: You walked along your neighborhood, unable to recognize your surrounding sight. A wreckage - the only word fitting for its current look. Among the debris, you hear desperate calls of people searching for their loved ones. Their cries drowning your own, as the sea played its calm waves. (Tsunami Preparedness Week)
Fleeting Luck: Happiness is here, you grinned as you look upon the rows of tables. You went from table to table and got consecutive wins. Of course this won't go unnoticed, not by the casino and especially not by Miss Fortune, herself. (Problem Gambling Awareness Month)
Voting is open until the 15th~
You can still join the topic for March:
Escape felt like a far distant dream, that hazy world beyond the light so hard to see.
How do you free yourself from the claws of virtual reality when it keeps dragging you in?
"Let the inspiration truck hit everyone!" - @BlancFrost ("So violent" - Pyoo)
If you have any prompts for next months or other ideas in general, feel free to post it on this thread!
As usual, submit your short story (500-7500 words) in the submission thread. Check out some of our past themes in the submission thread too~

Ideas for next month
Voting for out of control and if it ends up that, I write
Edit: or valor, that seems nice too.
Got called for some reason...
A monster lurks under your bed. It's there at night, but gone at daylight.
You've told your parents, but they joked about it being docile.
You can't help but lose many nights worth of sleep, wondering when it's gonna eat you; you want to do something, but you're small and weak. Your words untrustworthy.
Months pass, and the monster just seems to lie there, gradually forgotten. Then, an accident happens with you in its core. A truck hit you. It hit with such a force that even ten of you wouldn't survive it.
But enough about that, the important thing is that you woke up, you got to see the light of life once more!
Till you realize there is another consciousness in your mind, and your field of view really closely resembles what was under your bed.
Write a story about that!
You don't absolutely need to be the monster, you can make a joke about it.
Though if you are the monster in your version, what happens when daylight hits, and what's the reason you don't move at night?
Name of the title is like that because you switch from your point of view as you see the monster, to the Monster's POV.
Though it doesn't mean I limit it only to that.
From what I know, it could also be a point system, or nothing to do with the monster at all.
I vote for @The Everdistant Utopia.
It's been a long time since i've visited this forum, didn't expect it still relevant...
It's not really.
Some people still write for it though. Pretty cool.
