I've been kinda having this question nag at me for a while now, but why do some novels use a naming style from say Japanese when it's of Chinese origin? Most notable are Spirit blade mountain and such... These just bother me for some reason, especially when people talk about a Japanese dubbed or subbed or something anime version when there is the original sitting out there....
Can someone shed some light on this? Or maybe I'm just missing something here...

Edit: okay I totally get reading/watching a say Japanese dubbed or translated version if you can read and understand it and not Chinese but why would you do that when you understand neither?

    Does it even do that?

Edit - Not like it really matters, anyone can name anything they want unless it violates some laws such as trade marking

It's the same reason English writers would use a Japanese naming system in their writing. Just a creative decision that changes the style of the novel. I think these Chinese authors grew up reading manga and watching anime like many of us and like that kind of naming system, or just want to incorporate that flavor into their writing rather than using Chinese tropes. It's just a decision on the part of the author.

I think he's wondering why Chinese novels use Japanese naming in them, when they're obviously not Japanese novels.

But Spirit Blade Mountain uses chinese names, as far as I know from ten seconds of skimming it just now.

I dunno. I've seen it pop up a couple times in novels where I've thought they're JP but end up being CN. I haven't read Spirit Blade Mountain. Truthfully I'm not too sure what he's trying to say, that was just my best guess.

Spirit Blade Mountain got 2 version of anime. Chinese dub with original name and Japanese dub with Japanese name. They even got different OP and ED song.

The only one I can think of where that might have happened was that novel based off of Naruto but that would be part and parcel of the novel concept since the author is clearly a Naruto fan so he would name drop Naruto names and thus have Japanese names in a Chinese novel.
