Discussion Need a closure to my conflicting response in deciding a setting.

I am currently conflicted on which of the two should be the story setting.

1. Story starts half of a century later in the modern world where supernatural phenomenons are uncommon.
2. Story starts in a medieval fantasy world where supernatural phenomenons are common.

The world setting will entirely affect the course of events, but the end goal is the same. I will give a brief idea on how the story starts.

An orphan boy is sheltered by a kind sister who runs an orphanage in an old church at an old village that seems to be somewhat isolated from the outside world.

 

.... so basically this is a what should I read thread right desu ka?

 

Nah, more like give me a closure to my current mental dilemma, because I am an indecisive perfectionist.

 

2 for me because of the setting.....

this doesn't realy fit with the first opnions.....

 

Series 1: Modern apocalypse setting
Series 2: Isekai Kingdom Setting

 

you mean help me decide what to read cause i feel lonely and want to not raise my edginess up another degree desu ka?

 

1. Is something i'd like to see more since there are fewer good kinds of novels there are than 2. but 2 is the safer way to go about because it will seamlessly fit into the genre while for 1 needs a bit more creativity to make sense

 

Series 1: Futuristic Humanity Vs Robots setting
Series 2: Oldest of the Old! Cockroarch Vs Meteors! setting

The desu ka is seriously starting to bug me...
Anyways, I meant I need your vote in helping me decide which is which.

There's no apocalypse but I did consider it first, but then it would lose the meaning of the story, and as for kingdom/nation building; there isn't as the story is focused only at one place, but its not the village.

 

but why desu ka?
im merely guaging the level at which it takes for the salt to overflow desu~

also by description those are both tragic novels desu~
so might as well go with the kingdom building one desu

 

Both are a bit off for me.
1. Its modern then supernatural is uncommon, which could work but your MC is "isolated" from the modern world and isolation really dont work if everything is like how we have it. Even mountain people know cellphones or gps.

2. Medieval and supernatural is common, unless your planning to make the MC more supernatural than the common. Its like the world is full of Mages, magic and Demons/Gods then you drop a more OP MC which defies the common sense of that world.


Im going with mix of those choices
Medieval with supernatural is uncommon
Or
Modern with common

 

1 if you want a comedic approach to the novel
2 if it is a serious story

 

You got the latter right, but rather than common, its more like a soon to be common phenomenon after a certain life changing event started affecting children and adults all around the world.

 

i want nr 1 exactly for that reason. It seems a lot more interesting to see that story in post modern times

 

Do the medieval one.

 

Go with Modern, but the Setting at the end with the Orphan sounds like all those secret training facilities....

 

Do neither of them and set it in the Bronze Age.

 

1 . I think complex relationship between them will blooming and they in isolated area far from the world

 

The community is just as conflicted as you

 

1 your usual SciFi : start as orphan >join something in army or academy> venture the world.
2 your usual fantasy: start orphan> join mercenary/adv guild > get rich.
