New Novel Updates Bot Added!

    No matter how many times I explain how Novel Updates gets it's releases, there are still people who are still confused about how NU works which is totally fine. You don't need to know how this site gets chapter releases to be able to use it. This thread is targeted towards people who are slightly interested in how this site works and the translators who wishes to get their releases on Novel Updates faster. If you haven't seen my 'How Does Novel Updates Work' then please check it out.

    First of all, Novel Updates just added a new email bot which checks for releases via email instead of the old way of checking RSS feeds for releases. Currently, Novel Updates has two RSS feed bots and one email bot for a total of three bots. I'm not removing the old bots, I'm just adding new bots to the site.

    If you're wondering why I have so many bots, it's because the one and only RSS bot went down once or twice for a few hours while I was away 8-9 months ago. It got a little annoying having the site kinda stopped working if the one and only bot also went down so I decided to get a backup RSS feed bot back then. As of today, NU currently has three bots (two RSS bots & one email bot)!

    Curious about how the two bots compares to each other? Here...

    RSS Bot
    Timeout (5 minutes) -> Download & Process Data (10 minutes) = 15 minutes

    Email Bot
    Timeout (3 Minutes) -> Download & Process Data (a few seconds) = 3 minutes + a few seconds

    As new groups are added to Novel Updates, it takes longer for the RSS bot to download and process the data. For the email bot, it shouldn't matter how many groups are added, it should only take a few seconds to process everything since it's only checking new emails. The email bot is five times faster than the RSS bot!

    Before people get confused, other than getting releases faster via the email bot, nothing will be changed. If you're a translator and you don't care about getting on NU faster then there's no need to worry about the email bot. The RSS bot will still be there to get releases. Although the RSS feed bot is slower (It's still fast! Just slower than the email bot!), it's more reliable so I'm not removing them.

    I'm still currently in the process of signing up for groups via email so a lot of groups aren't currently listed. Here is the list of groups I'm currently signed up for to get releases via email: Group List

    Anyways, I don't normally talk about these kind of things because I don't think a lot of people care or is interested in it but I wanted some feedback on how the new email bot is working. It's been out for a few days and I think it's working good for the most part. There are still some minor bugs that needs to be fixed. I guess I'm asking for help from the F5 sect.

    tl;dr: Added a new bot which checks email for releases. You should get releases five times faster than the old RSS feed bots.

    Wow Tony, moving the site up in the world it seems next thing we know we will be getting the chapters fully translated and edited the moment the actual author releases them over in China or the other myriad of countries we get novels from. =D

    At least with those bots runnin' around, maybe i no longer need manual site checking( although if i check site manually, such as Moon Buny Cafe for example, some story relesae even faster than the bot RSS feed check site).
    And really wanna say, manual check over than 50+ my favorite web/ light novel ( sometime multiple website with the same novels/ contents) still a pain to the @ss to do( but it just taken me at most 3 hours to fully check them along with new manga release from my trustful contact link).
    If needed, please double the ammounts of RSS feed bot so we can have a constant, refresh update on our favorite novels. The mail bots is fine as it is for now, so just let it be for a while. Novels is made by man, but it's up to us to use the bot to deliver. It's like we harvest the goods from our farm then use modern vehicle such as deliver truck instead of horse cart to deliver to the consummer, but in our case is Translator/ reader relation.

    Sometimes I still go f5 to their sites because NU is a little late(just a little okay!) in releases.
    Now I'll just f5 directly in NU and can monitor them all! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:;);)(y)(y)
