New Recommendations System

    It took awhile to get here but we can finally say goodbye to NU's old and useless recommendation system! The old recommendation system found related series based on categories and tags. The new recommendation system will be based on votes from users. It'll be a lot better in my opinion.

    To start using the new recommendation system, you will have to go to the series information page for the novel. Example: http://www.novelupdates.com/series/i-shall-seal-the-heavens/ then scroll down till you find 'Recommendations' and click the 'Edit' link. The number of votes for that novel is shown in the brackets.

    You will need to have the novel you're recommending in your reading list before you can recommend it. Yes, this is done on purpose and yes I know you can't use this feature if you don't use the reading list feature.

    That's it. Go recommend something!

    While I'm here making announcements, I would like to let everyone know that there's been a change in how reviews are shown. No matter what type of sorting you pick for your reviews, the two newest reviews within 30 days will be shown on top for more exposure.

    This recommendation system is definitely better since user are better at recommending similar books than machine using tags.

    The fact that the most liked reviews were at the top totally annoyed me. I mean, many of the reviews were earlier in the novel history, when it was better/worse, and may not be true as of today. Anyway that is the best change I've seen out of this lot

    Yeah, many old recommendations sucks. New system is far better.
    Thanks now no more SITP or arufeta in recommendation.

    I just hope user can recommend similar novels like the settings or feeling they both share and not their top recommendations without any similarities.

    I don't think that will be too much of a problem. Once each legit recommended are submitted, the troll recommendation will get hidden down the list unless the troll will take the time to create a bot for multiple accounts to cast vote. If that happen, it will easily detected and hopefully resolve quickly.
