I got this on my feed today, thought I would share it with the community here, if anyone didn't already know. Losing a piece of history is indeed sad.
From what I heard, it took some serious amount of time and money to restore it to its original status last time. They made sure to keep it to the original.
In Notre-Dame's case, yes (from what has been heard). Don't know if it applies to Shuri Castle as well. No matter... all one can hope now is for the reconstruction to be successful.
It;s a big thing but it's not such a worrying thing like Notre Dame though. The formerly current one that burnt down was itself a highly accurate rebuild done in 92 (i think) after it was destroyed during WW2. The JP govt has already said they'll do everything to have it properly rebuilt again to the same accurate, high standards that the earlier rebuild was done to. This is actually the fifth time the castle has been destroyed (previous four are 1453, 1660, 1709 and 1945.)
