By supporting Qidian you support sweatshops and slave labour.

Quidian is the Chinese publisher of most of these books.

Except they accepted tens of thousands of dollars or more to license that right to WW. Owning the original copyright doesn't grant them the right to violate their contract.

In all likelihood they would need permission of the translators that are translating the novels to implement a paywall because most translators own the rights to the translations they post so would need permission

Words on the grapevine is that the translators have sold their rights to it

I've been reading Wuxiaworld translations for years. I have always supported them but knew this moment was imminent. It happened to Japanese light novels being translated. Translating a book you don't own the English rights to is illegal lol. Wuxiaworld negotiated but obviously didn't reach an agreement with Qidian. Since Qidian owns the rights to these books they did what is legally correct.

Not for their legit translations. QI contracts buys the TL rights wholesale.

    Sigh.

Expect, again, they did reach an agreement, and in fact paid QI huge sums of money for the rights.

QI violated that agreement, and stole their translations.

This is well established as fact.

    nutshell version:

QI promised the community to not be evil, then immediately went back on their word, violated their agreements with WW, stole the work of their translators, as well as other various shady actions.

I see while i agree that are shitbags for doing that they could have also just issued DMCA on WW and been done with it.
But then i guess if they did that they couldn't steal the translations. ヽ༼ ツ ༽ノ

Quite a lot has happened but there are some threads that try to elucidate this issue.
Here's one on NUF and here are two on reddit.

    Edit: Fixed first link

While that would be funny as hell. it's pretty much impossible since they own the original content

Actually, it's impossible because they are hosted in China, and don't need to honor DMCA's.

Owning the original content doesn't make them immune from the potential consequences of hosting stolen translations. The translators own them wholesale.
