I'm not one of the earlier members of the forum but I kinda remember that the birthday cake icon is pricier and that the blue ribbon icon was for the bl lovers and the pink rose is for the gl lovers. I don't know the history of the rebel icon, my fave one... or when did we ever had icons... if nuffies came first or icons came with nuffies... so help? Birthday icons price kept rising because everyone kept buying cakes for @Shem . Whenever it calmed down, it would be lowered. It was around 1k at one point. The blue ribbon was adopted by Bl lovers and the rose by Gl lovers to be friendly between themselves. It doesn't actually represent them so if you like it, just purchase it . The Rebel icon is symbol of hope against the tyranny of @Tony
I vaguely remember because it was @SummerForest and other bl lovers who requested for a bl lover icon. I had this thought to make a thread like this because when I see someone gift a pink flower to others, I'm reminded that it's supposed to be a gl icon... I laugh a little every time I think what happened was they purchased it for each other but it was a timed icon so they requested it to @Tony that the icon should stay. Something along that line, so in my mind it has always been and will always be the bl icon Was there a rebel group and a leader?

Personally, I find it a little unfair that a small amount of people decided the meanings of the icons for the rest of us. Although Hamster Mama’s favorite flower was orchids, she used the rose as a symbol for decades, so when she died, I even put a carved rose on her gravestone. I don’t particularly like the idea of anytime I’m using the rose to remember Hamster Mama, people are thinking I’m a part of the GL sect.

Icons are still ordinary objects after all so even if nuf's ancient and outdated history considered it as the icon for the GL sect, nothing is stopping others from using it as they want and attach their own symbolism to it.
