NUF's 2nd Anniversary Celebration [Interest + Discussion Thread]

Well, I'll sign up for all the debates, and if you need help hosting then I'm up for it, I'll be mostly free until the start of the competition anyways ~
Team chess sounds ... interesting , I'll look forward to how it's executed~

 

It sounds like it could go wrong very easily depending upon the setup.

 

Yea that's why I'm interested, it'll be fairly challenging to get it off well.
So far I guess a valid option is team vs team then tally the wins for each side , but that comes with its own problems.
Well whatever they choose to do it should be interesting enough to watch.

Team Events:

Avatar Art Contest: Each team will be given 2 weeks to create an avatar based on the team's color followed by 2 weeks of judging. This will be the avatar that each member of the team will use during the competition period. We might decide to make this either original or edited but it should be a new artwork created specifically for this contest.

Team Cheer: Team cheers can use preexisting songs. Cheers should be self-describing, no NSFW and no swearing.

Chat Stories: We will create a team profile for each team and the members will spam a designated profile post. But to make it more challenging, instead of random spamming, it will be in the form of chat stories, like this: http://hookedstories.com/hooked-identical-part-1-full-story/ Judging will be based on both the number of posts as well as the storyline.

Scavenger Hunt: Depends on how challenging we want to make this. We will ask 40-50 volunteers to hide an image and write a clue that describes that member. They can either hide it in a spoiler in the About Me section of their profiles or to make it even more challenging they can hide it in any of their profile or thread posts [they can include that in the clue]. Each team or individual contestant will pm the host as soon as they find the image. The first that completes it wins.

The rule is that you can't go twice in a row on the same team so something like this:
Team A Member 1
Team B Member 3
Team A Member 2 (Anyone except member 1 can go)
Team B Member 1 (Anyone except member 3 can go)
Team A Member 4 (Anyone except member 2 can go)
Team B Member 3 (Anyone except member 1 can go)
Team A Member 2 (Anyone except member 4 can go)



Individual Events:

King and Queen of NUF: Any member can nominate who they think should be the King and Queen as well as "NUF's Best/Most ...", this is something similar to what @Kiwionwheels did before in this thread: http://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/nuf-annul-awards.18941/

These are popularity contests and will be based on likes.

Poetry: we haven't decided on the theme. We can open this up for discussion in this thread.

Debate
Guidelines [credit @yuzuki]

• Form a team of 3-4(?) people.

• The debate would be like a game between Team A and Team B.

• Each team alternates posts:
  • Opening Statements: 500 words maximum
  • Rebuttals, Cross-examinations, etc: 250 words maximum
    • Round 1
    • Round 2
    • Round 3
  • Closing Statements: 300 words maximum

• The rules would be as follows:

• There is a maximum word count per post (e.g. 300 words). Please post the word count with every post. This is analogous to having a timer in a formal debate.
• The individuals on a team cannot post twice in a row. Everyone on their own team must go before they can post again. This is to prevent one single individual from dominating the debate.

Topics to choose from:

• Is it better to be a public otaku or a "closet otaku" (who hides their interests)?
• Should NUF ban clone accounts?
• E-books or physical books?
• Is it better for translators to prioritize fast translations or high quality translations?
• Should mods receive an allowance? in nuffies of course!
• others...

AMA
We will create a thread for each AMA. The invited member can choose the number of questions to answer per day as well as the duration of the AMA. Its ok to skip questions you don't want to answer.

Do i need to find people (teams) for this? ...how many people does a team need?

 

How about a "identify that novel" event? where we write something about the novel (a clue) and the player(s) have identiy which novel it is.. and we can even make it like the jeopardy! game show.

Also, I might be helpful in the debates section, either as a judge or a competitor. However, I would first like to know the tentative time frame..will probably be super busy for a week or so in mid September.
