In the past, Lightning Magic Storm had had the highest "potential" of the abilities in the Darkness Rune. However "potential" was the right word, since it came with many limitations.

    Now however...

    <Incarnation Storm>

    Field Effect 1-

    <Holy Flame>

Attracts the latent flame to form the Incarnation Storm of the 9th Heart of the Suzaku.

The storms dominate the area within 200 meters of the caster, increasing healing done by all allies, including the caster. Reduced for all undead or demons by 20%. Reduces enemies' healing by 50%.

When an enemy with a Reduced Heal attempts healing, an Avatar of Wrath is manifested, dealing 15,000 fixed damage and a chance to reverse the healing effect.

Undead or Demon targets will continue to suffer great damage if the target is in range of a storm.

    Field Effect 2

    <Flame of will>

Empowers the Incarnation Storm with Duke of Fire's Intangible Keeper.

Reduces Will and Strength Stats of all enemies in the Storm's range, and deals additional Fire damage in proportion to Will and Intellect Stats. Double the damage penetrates the target's armor and resistance - not applied to targets with the Will Stat. Damaged targets have a high chance of burning.

<< Effects 3-6 not available until the 9th Heart grows, the Will Stat reaches 2000, and until Grid becomes a Half God / God. >>

Resource cost when activated: 1,000 mana per second

    Time to summon field: Immediately

    Cooldown: 20 minutes

The most important thing in battle was managing health. But in front of the Incarnation Storm, all enemies were equal. Not even players on the level of Kraugel with his amazing control skills would be able to handle the debuffs and harm caused by the Incarnation Storm. The Incarnation Storm even made it dangerous to try to heal yourself.

However, although the soldiers of the King trembled in the face of Grid's fire and looked like they wanted to retreat, they stood firm. It reminded Grid of his own soldiers standing tall in front of the enemy, with their weapons gone.

Most of the opponent's warrior as well as their king were within the storm, but they were safe. It was because Grid had controlled Field Effect 1. However, any talismans thrown his way burst into flames by the power of Intangible Keeper.

As it was now, only Intangible attacks could reach Grid. The surprised swordsman looked like they had seen a ghost.

    Grid looked towards the King.

The qualities required to win such loyalty from his followers were not those born of threats or force. He had not won the loyalty of Sua's dad by being an ordinary king. And he proved it now.

"Everybody move back.", the king ordered.

The warriors tried to push back against taking such risks with an intruder, but the king was firm.

Mooyoung had been the High King's shadow for a long time It was because of him that he had remained safe all these years... He stepped back.

"A deep evil covets the world from beneath the ground. The Yangban who had seen the people's suffering gathered them together. 'Block the path to Hell with your bones and flesh' they said, 'that the Earth may be at peace'." (I'm guessing here. I'm translating "Ozone" to Yangban)... It was part of the myths of the East Continent.

The High King, having grown up in the East Continent, had believed in the legend of the Yangban. But once he became King, he began to understand more things, and doubts crept into his heart.

"All the poems and myths of this continent demand sacrifice and giving to the Yangban, in return for what they have given. But the Yangban, though they walk among humans, receiving their service... Do not really understand or care about human beings."

The King started to realize that the myths seemed distorted, that these gods might not be gods, that the power protecting them was the breaths of the sacred creatures - who may not just be the meaningless servants of gods that the stories made them out to be.

He wondered if he could handle this feeling of loss, knowing that the world that both he and his ancestors had served and believed in, was a lie.

Suddenly, the King recognized the face of the intruder... It was the friend who had saved the people of Pangea and taken them elsewhere.

    The King (
King Cho / High King) apologized for his failure to protect Sua and her dad under pressure from Garam.

Grid had been here to ascertain where the King's loyalties lay. Now, he got straight to the point...

"Your true Gods, the Gods who protect this land, are not the Yangban. The ones who have deserved your gratitude have always been the Sacred Beasts"

Anyway, Grid said that the King was in danger... He was being hunted by certain people... The King naturally looked like his world was crumbling...

Then Grid suggested to the King "Let's work together"

    “....?”

"If you and I hold hands, we can get over the crisis."

    “....!”

The King was surprised to see Grid bring out the Red Phoenix Bow... Far more powerful now than it had been before.

"Let us revive the Phoenix and restore the true guardian of this land."

Grid had originally thought that the Quest to restore the bow would take a long time, and would maybe be completed after the National Competition. But now, with the Enhanced Breaths, and with this great king favoring him...

"Don't be afraid, it won't be very hard".

In truth, Grid had the most reason to be afraid here. He was alone in a hostile land. But then he realized... He didn't need to be alone.

And once he restored the bow, the true gods of this land could return, freed from the distortions created by the Yangban.

Garam might find humans weak and stupid, but that wasn't the case.

"Suzaku will protect us and this land. So, if you have a breath of Suzaku, give it to me."

    “....?”

The King was shaken. Grid had gone ahead and so casually asked for their greatest national treasure. It was absurd.

He felt in a very unfamiliar position. Like he was experiencing daylight robbery. (lol)

But where the King was shaken, Grid's eyes were steady, confident, demanding...

    ---

So, if Garam doesn't appear, Grid could be getting his next breath by the next chapter or so? Dang!

But more likely, something unexpected is about to happen.

Maybe Peerless Martial God, but you often get some kind of dodge around romance / taking care of children.

Imagine the absurdity if Ruby and Damian was around. It seems like Duke of fire was really the answer to be greater than or equal to a sword saint.

Other powerhouses in the east continent have not made their moves yet. This includes the chiyou, daoist immortals/pangea's hero, lee jeong/triad. I also think it would be weird if Suzaku resurrects immediately with no problems. Maybe it would attract the attention of the 5 seniors giving Grid and the others more room to breathe. Also, if Suzaku resurrects, attention of the western gods would be fixed on the eastern continent so the expelled gods would have to tread carefully and avoid leaking out the true number of yangbans. The five seniors would then try to greatly increase the defenses for the other sacred weapons.

Btw, how can one just steal one of the sacred weapons? Like Hanul's "vision" can show him, most likely, everywhere on the continent and it would be very negligent of them to just leave sacred weapons defenseless despite having many powerhouses on the continent.

Since it was stolen by the Blue Tiger - son of the White Tiger and high level transcendent / half god... He probably had the means.

I think they were and maybe still are in use as ceremonial objects. The Eastern Gods may have assumed that there was no one who could reasonably steal and hide them.

Plus, most of the zodiac spirits were destroyed by the fall of the Sacred Beasts, so they may have underestimated what was left (who knows)

Hanul might also be fine with it if he is a bit like Zeratul or Yatan, in that he represents a principle or idea. If he favors balance or justice, then if the Blue Tiger won it fair and square, he might have accepted it.

Like like how the developers claimed all the duke titles are OP as shit, and in turn, super hard to get a complete version of

They are what granted legends a great deal of their strength, and it seems as though these titles aren't necessarily set in stone as how what they do, but rather, they evolve and grow more comparable with the user and they develop further.

Like once Grid learns blacksmithing from the dwarves, his duke of fire might gain another ability

He also still has to figure out what the difference is with his duke of wisdom class, and how to evolve it on it brahams decendent. Braham still hase his inherintece on the hero islands, fucking get that shit, whatever it is.

Is pangea just 1 country? I don't think Grid would have to unreal the blue dragon since that war god lightning pillar of the empire guy claims to have met the dragon.

Also even if he unsealed the gods, they may be OP but they won't be anywhere strong enough to fight the yangban and take over, they would have to regain their strength like braham
Maybe Grid can restore the zodiac spirits as well
Also I'm really hoping to see Lord grow up, it would be amazing to see how he chooses to develop himself

    1172 (Short Summary)

Grid gets a red phoenix breath from the King from before the fall of the sacred beasts, that had been one of the reasons for improved agriculture and prosperity in the country. A gift from long ago that shows the true disposition of the Phoenix God, convincing King Cho that restoring the old Gods is a worthy goal.

In the Empire, they learn that the Gauss Kingdom has fallen and different Dukes have different attitudes towards it, and the relationship with the Overgeared Kingdom.

Goldhit tried to act on behalf of the Gauss Kingdom and gets the Tower of Eternity Meteored by Braham to her considerable horror, getting all her colleagues turned into Undead. So she bitches at him about how he's treating the apprentice of one of his apprentices.

There's a ridiculous surge in magic power underground from all the way in the East Continent over to the West Continent, that connects the two continents. Braham vanishes in a burst of white light, and Goldhit who was standing next to him gets pulled in and vanishes also.

I'm going to assume that this magic surge is a result of Grid having fully recovered the Red Phoenix. Wonder if Goldhit getting pulled in is going to become an opportunity for the Exiled Gods.

Honestly, the last 80 or so chapters have been pretty hype. After Marie Rose's awakening/meeting with Zikfrector (c. 1103), this is the chapter that I am looking forward to the most.

Empire's power keeps decreasing. As the empress, Basara will remain at the palace and the princes generally tend to remain in Titan (only Roland and Dulandal are in the empire). Among the 5 pillars, Kyle became Grid's subordinate, Zikfrector became a traitor, bain/chensler are missing and goldhit became braham's bitch. I don't know if there any new dukes (i.e. Rigal's and Limit's sons) but when Basara became the empress, only 3 of them were left (Grenhal, Morse and Rachel). Air force suffered serious damage, Red knights are gone. One of the ten great magicians was killed by the half-draconians and who knows what will happen to Goldhit? I doubt they could defeat a fully powered Valhalla and I genuinely think the military power of the overgeared kingdom is significantly greater than the empire at this point (water clan, evil eyes, vampires, braham, former red knights...) Still, it's good that the author comes back to them and shows that they still exist. Among the npc nobles of the former eternal kingdom, only irene and bland matter somewhat.

Braham is just amazing. Casually destroying the most powerful magical establishment of the current age. I hoped he would pull a Madara on them. Imagine the tower of eternity people rejoicing after barely preventing a meteor attack only to be annihilated by a second one. It's a shame this didn't happen.

Also one has to wonder if Zikfrector is currently awake and on the eastern continent/on his way there.

Goldhit's master was Braham's student (albeit inferior to Mumud). That's why she knows so much about him and wants his Enhanced Magic.

This magical disappearance... It might be more interesting if this is a magical abduction.

"We have your friend" or worse "We have your friends..."

Garam might have gone and leaked more details to the exiled gods, and they may know that Grid is likely to be looking towards restoring the Red Phoenix.

... It would give Braham more of an opportunity to express his angst towards the gods on behalf of his mother... It would've been interesting if more of the other characters were active in the direction of their own quests. Like, would Braham still like to complete his mom's mission despite everything and prove himself?

What does Braham himself want to do, outside of helping Grid?

Braham has several main goals. The first one is to become immortal again. He needs to defeat Marie Rose to obtain it and his level is too low for that at the moment. Defeating Fenrir was a step towards this goal. Another goal is to devour all knowledge per his instincts. Duke of Wisdom title states that the truth has not been learned yet and this is probably what he is seeking to acquire whatever that truth may be. He would also study magic in general. Third, he wants to free his disciple Mumud and to right his past mistakes. These seem to be his main goals so far. There are 2 other things he might want to do which I am less sure of. The first one is revenge on behalf of her his mother. So defeating Baal and other great demons who exiled her and Yatan who cursed Beriache. Before entering into Grid's body for the final time he said smt like I have many enemies so this wouldn't be surprising. Finally, he might want to resurrect and free his mother. Liberating her has been his goal before Marie Rose wrecked him. It also seems pretty clear that his mother is the first person Braham truly cared about and he resented his siblings for accepting their fates and doing nothing instead of trying to help her. So it wouldn't be surprising if we see Beriache come back at some point.

I don't know how much Braham resents gods in general. He definitely dislikes them and is wary of them but I doubt he'd go wild if he meets Zeratul or if he is planning to bring down the gods of asgard like the 7 malignant saints. Most likely, the only god he will go out of his way and plan on destroying is Yatan at the moment but that might change if the exiled gods threaten Grid.

A lot of players who arrive at the East Continent felt like complete noobs, and freaked out at the outrageous difficulty level where even minor quests are devastating. But some are also inspired... This was a place where Grid did well, but also one he ran away from. If they commit to growing here (even doing menial things), they might even catch up with Grid.

Karas was a transnational city always in need of more hands, and so the many new players easily found a place in this big city.

Hera walks into the city and sees ... Bloody rankers doing household chores... Rankers admired in the West Continent, lived like rats here.

She asks about the herb she's looking for... It's apparently a super herb that's reputed to nearly be able to bring back the dead, if you have the skills to use it.

It's banned for civilian use now because in the past some criminals used it to raise warriors back to life and cause a ruckus (really...)

The herbalist says that she'll need to get her recipe verified to get access to it, and then make it at the palace, in front of the authorities to make sure she's not doing anything crazy when making her medicine.

As she's walking around, she sees Kentrick (a mere warrior)admonishing some blacksmiths on their shoddy workmanship.

Grid needed a suitable place to enhance the Red Phoenix Breath. A place that handle massive heat (just go back to the old temple ya doofus). He knew he had to work fast, since Garam could arrive at any moment.

Meanwhile the High King tried to explain the truth of the Sacred Beasts and the Exiled Gods
(prematurely)... And got zero traction from the religious buggers. They attacked him instead and blood sprayed everywhere... He wept (he should weep after going all Fist of the North Star on their asses instead!)

    ***

Braham is in the Abyss with Goldhit
('s living head in his hand?), meeting the super demon that Grid met before. They talk for a bit - Braham seems to know something about who he really is but he seems afraid of knowing the truth and Braham decides not to get into it. The demon (whose name I've forgotten) allows him to pass because he can feel that Braham would trash him.

    And then...

"Oh shit! There's a hydra down here!"

    He was... Fucked!

The herb that can nearly bring back the dead has to be handled very carefully. We don't want the deaths in the series to resemble the comic book deaths where you are like this guy's going to resurrect in a year or two. Like he shouldn't easily be able to bring back Khan. The solution to this kind of op ability is often either nerfing the effect itself (brings back for an x amount of time, brings back a soul fragment and not the body etc.) or give absurd use requirements (can only be used on a person within a day after their death, could only be used on transcendents, Braham level wisdom...).

I understand not going back to the temple. Garam said he'll kill the King along with many others and Grid doesn't know how bad Garam is wounded. Naturally he expects Garam to fulfill his promise after he heals and Grid knows Garam has access to enhanced healing due to Suzaku's breath.

Regarding Braham, I can only come up with wild speculations. Grid is of the opinion that Braham is a troll and after his meeting with Lee Jeong, he was very happy he didn't explore the abyss. I can only imagine his reaction to finding out Braham in the eastern continent with Goldhit's head and Biplonz, while carrying hydra leather. Given Grid's supreme misunderstanding powers I can see this go in all sorts of ways. Like Zikfrector being impressed with Grid's "under the radar" actions in helping him with his cause and rewarding him while Lee Jeong and/or daoist immortals being impressed with how Grid is a mastermind playing expelled gods and gods of Asgard against one another while he is also working with the olds gods and further increasing his powers.

Alternatively, Zikfrector and Braham might work together giving us the team-up we did not know we needed. This could also lead to many of the same events I just mentioned. What are your guesses and wishes?

I think the herb would be an item that can only be used shortly after death, like an elixar that heals super serious wounds if sort. If someone dies, you have a second or two before they are lost kinda thing

I'm really curious what would happen if Braham meets the sloth guy and steal his seemingly unknown/ancient speaks and makes them even better lol

Also I wonder if there are faries within satisfy. Ik grid has his elemental spirit and will probably get a second blessing for the world tree the next time he helps it but it would be cool to see how faries and picked might be incorporated to the game.

Also I wonder, since Grid is already like lol 4 trancedent, and he has long since been able to keep his evil eye under control, I wonder if he'll ever get his other eye transformed

Maybe he could have like one eye of free and one of envy, where one copies a buff and the other neutralizes the opponents buff, could be fun

There's already necromancy. Madra was brought back some time after he had died, even if Pagma's skills at necromancy were obviously questionable. Braham, of course, has managed his own resurrection.

Where I'm not really expecting Grid to start resurrecting his NPCs... That would at least be a very natural goal for Grid to pursue.

To be able to restore Piaro if he dies, or to restore him or Irene to youth, are sensible goals that are worth exploring for that world.

(Even worth exploring in our own world - already in fact, being explored... We've had decent success reducing the impact of aging on mice at least)

The hydra was no ordinary monster. Believed to have been born of Yatan, it coupled a level of regeneration that made it "impossible to kill", and created a venomous fear that even gods aren't immune to. It was a mythical being.

The venom of the hydra killed all mortals, and put gods in unending agony. There was a legend of some forgotten god who had become addicted to the poison and then slowly died.

    Goldhit was terrified.

"Do you know why Hydra is still alive?", Braham asked.

    "...?"

"Because it hadn't met me yet."

    “....!”

Braham thought he was going to defeat a mythical being? It was a ridiculous delusion!

A powerful magic force pulled towards Braham. All the mana that had accumulated in this hole for what was almost an eternity now responded to Braham's Mana Drain!

"The only ones who can destroy all nine heads of the hydra at the same time are me and Madra!"

Braham admitted to himself that if he had gone up against Muller, he would've lost. It would've been impossible to maintain an infinite mana shield against endless swords that could exploit even small opportunities. But against the Hydra... He was superior!

"Behold, a grand magic without flaws or weaknesses"

Cracks began to appear in the darkness around Braham. A transcendental power breaking what could not be broken.

    'Amazing'

Goldhit might be evil, but at her heart, she was a great wizard. She felt only pleasure seeing such a great magic unfold in front of her. To be honest, even when Braham's Meteor had destroyed the Tower of Eternity, she had felt ecstasy seeing such great magic, before she came to realize her anger.

'A legendary grand magic that can even destroy a Hydra!'

Goldhit gave up her feeling of despair. She would fight her hardest to live, and to experience the greatest of experiences that life offered her.

    "Destruction."

The grand magic heard of only in legends came to fruition before her eyes.

    Sunlight!

    Destroying all darkness!

The eyes of in the nine heads of the Hydra flashed red. The eyes of a monster that had killed even a god.

All nine heads were simultaneously torn apart and fell with a roar.

    “....!”

It was even more destructive than described in the legends!

Unlike Braham's expectations, Goldhit was thrilled to see such great magical power and Braham burst into laughter.

    Hahahahahahaha!

    Hahahahahahaha!

The sound of his laughter echoed across the abyss.

Braham's own thrill was far greater than Goldhit's. With his own hands he had casually slaughtered an existence that was on the level of a myth. Something that Pagma, Muller, and the Undefeated King had not managed.

There was only one thing that had made it possible... Borrowing the immense sea of mana that had accumulated in the Abyss for so much time...

Braham had performed at a level well beyond himself when he was at his strongest.

Always better when you can exploit the mana of your enemy.

    “Amazing! Awesome!! Brilliant!!”

    Goldhit applauded honestly.

After what seemed like an eternity Braham's laughter finally died down.

    "It's a shame"

The vast concentration of mana he had used was no more. He might never again have access to mana so great as to unleash such a spell ever again.

Even so, in honor of a blow that would never again be paralleled, he moved towards the body of the Hydra. The nine dead heads continued to squirm. Continuing to spit poison destroying the land.

He tested the poison and found that it would penetrate his magical shields and melt through rock. The hydra's death had not made its poison less poisonous.

Goldhit had hid her mana core inside of Braham's Inner World. Knowing that no matter what, that would never be destroyed, and so she too would never die.

But Braham found it, and to her horror, he threw her head and mana core into the lake of the Hydra's poison. Giving her the final peace as her mana core fell apart and her soul left this world.

"Nothing can be done when you exist as a parasite living in another's body. But if you are born again, come and be my disciple. I will give you a better life."

    Sad...

Not giving Goldhit another glance, he walked past the hydra to the two gates it had protected.

Behind the left, he felt a terrible magic, and behind the right the thoughts and wills of hundreds of thousands of people on the East Continent.

As he approached the left door, he felt an incredible pain, beyond that of the Hydra's poison. But he endured. Grid was beyond that door.
(Dude! Just get Sticks to send you to the East Continent!)

    ***

Grid, did not get into a habit of depending on luck.

His high luck was because of his luck stat, but his recent battles had been really tough and he had barely made it through them.

Coming upon his fight with Garam, he was afraid that he would fail to reinforce the breath of Suzaku. Fortunately, he succeeded.

    "Ha!"

All the tension he had felt all across this work was released at once. His legs felt weak.

Grid whistled and tried to sit still and restore his spirit.

As soon as he restored the Red Phoenix Bow, he would have to recreate the Ideal Longsword that had been lost to Garam. The Rapid Movements buff was a must for him to have a chance at survival.

But there were guests to greet.

    "May I come in?"

The King and his servants waited outside the door of the smithy, and they had heard the sound of fire and hammering finally stop.

    "Please come in."

Grid sounded terrible as the servants poured in. The King was shocked seeing Grid's face covered with blood after completing the strengthening of the Breath.

    "Is the ritual ready?"

    "Yes"

The King felt terrible that he had had to kill his own people to lay the foundation for today. A new alter had been built. And the old God that his people had once believed in would finally return.

Grid brought the bow to the alter and brought forth the Reinforced Breath of Suzaku. Everyone could feel an energy come from it. An energy that was much like the energy that had always filled their country and made them prosperous.

Grid didn't delay. He infused the bow with the reinforced breath, and the heart of a Forgotten God was reborn. A holy flame began to fill the palace. A pillar of fire shot up into the sky... So great that it could be seen from anywhere in the country, turning the sky red.

The eyes of those at the side of the king filled with tears. They instinctively knew what was happening. This warm energy... The patron saint that had guarded their ancestors was returning.

The ground gained new vitality, and all the people of the country felt their heart fill with emotion.

On the other hand, Grid looked terrible.

[Most of the power that was sealed in the Red Phoenix Bow has been restored. But Suzaku has been asleep too long. It can not easily open its eyes]

[1 hour 29 minutes left until you can open your eyes]

[Protect the Red Phoenix Bow for 1 hour and 29 minutes, so you can open your eyes safely]

    "Oh no!"

No one likes defense type quests!

That's because most defense type quests push their participants to the limits.

    There were sounds of explosions.

Grid flew up into the air. He tried to sense where the explosions were coming from while keeping his eyes closed.

    Fortunately, Grid wasn't alone.

    Noe became Grid's eyes.

"Go, Garam is killing the soldiers!", the King said urgently from the ground. "
Garam broke through the outer gate, the forces will try to stall him. Try to resurrect the old god faster!"

The people could feel the holy flame being magnified. Recognizing that they needed more time for their god to be reborn, they became resolved to do what needed to be done.

But they were no match for Garam.

    "....damn."

    1 hour and 28 minutes.

Was it possible to hold up that long?

Of course, it was impossible. Even when he had used
Unlimited Blade Works in the Rabbit community, he hadn't lasted 20 minutes. But the only person who could slow down Garam was himself.

Grid flew in the direction of Garam. He was prepared to die. If he tried to hide or run away, there would be no way to avoid the destruction of the city.

"I will try to lure Garam away. Please keep the Red Phoenix Bow so you'll have another chance if I fail"

"Okay, wait! Why are you doing all this for us?!", the King was embarrassed.

"Because I promised to help you."

    “....!”

Grid's body was covered with lightning
(promising) and disappeared. The King and his soldiers could only stare after him, with pain in their eyes. Even if the King wanted to send his soldiers to follow Grid, he had responsibilities. Tears filled his eyes in regret of his own weakness.

"Bring all the warriors and scholars of Karas to this palace. While the Western King buys us time, we will do our best to wake our Lord up faster!"

I'm iffy on whether Goldhit is Braham's apprentice's apprentice. Or if she was Braham's apprentice, and just untalented by Braham's standards.

There have been times where it seemed she had once been his apprentice (also seems that way in this chapter), and also times where she seems to mention learning about Braham's abilities second hand.

In this chapter, it feels like Braham is saying that he had taken her up on a whim because he saw pain in his eyes that seemed like his own. But she was talentless and couldn't inherit his enhanced magic.

And now that she's been jumping bodies and living as a parasite, she's even less promising than before. So he may as well destroy her mana core and send her to her death, so that she might find peace and maybe be reborn to a better life.
