I just got off watching all 3 anime seasons for Overlord and was wondering where that put me in terms of the Overlord LN chapters? Or is the LN and anime for Overlord completely different? I would rather not have to start from square one in the LN because reading 13 vol. is a pain in the ass, but I’ll do it if the LN and anime have that much of a difference.
I'll just say it, the anime was a disappointment when compared to the greatness that is the LN. Also Season 2 and 3 really dropped the ball too in term of animation.
Agreed. The novels really give more details on the skills and lore of the game, for example the LN explains the effects of Ains' skill "The Goal of All Life is Death" which in the Anime they just show Ains using it and Shalltear dying

Guess I get to start from square one. Well, I guess that’s fine as well. While I didn’t want to start from square one, the anime did leave me slightly confused. I enjoyed the story, but there seemed to be quite a few plot holes they weren’t explaining, and each season of the anime didn’t have a well defined story arch (like the wasn’t 1 well-defined plot, but instead there were 3 sub-plots that loosely connected into 1 story for the anime season). If the LN can answer my questions, I’m better off starting from square one.
