This arc is pretty useless, and while others can say they like it because of the world building, nothing really happens that justify so many episodes. They should have used 2 episodes for this arc, and now i really hope they will cram everything else in the next episode because there isn't anything to tell the audience about. The characters are insignificant for the main storyline and the important bits are yet to make an appearence. Cocytus' character building could take an episode, but the journey of a nameless lizard? Surely not. I found it funny that they couldn't even make a proper animation for the lizards!
The first 2 episodes of this season aren't a good way to start an anime so hyped in the past.
I have read the lightnovel, the manga adaptation and the first 50 chapters of the webnovel. So this arc really is too much for me. Actions! I need actions! Show the greatness of Ainz-sama! Make the world bow to the eternal ruler Ainz-sama. All hail Ainz-sama

I'm not saying Overlord is bad. Far from it. The parts I read seem quite good. It's just that there are certain types of MCs I don't like to read about:
    1) Too stupid to live, e.g. the guy in Konosuba
    2) Hypocritical - if the MC does it, it's the will of Heaven; if the Villain does it, he's not showing the MC face - common in many xianxia
    3) Blaming the victim - often seen in many JP novels, e.g. "Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru" where the MC/author blames the girl Yukino for causing the accident even though it was the MC who jumped into the path of her car
    4) Murder is wrong/protecting the criminals while sacrificing or risking their own allies, e.g. Infinite Stratos among many others
    5) Villains - I don't mind reading about anti-heroes, but I draw the line at actual villains
    6) *ssh*les - e.g. MCs who are rude for the sake of being rude like in Golden Wordmaster; or MCs who are utterly self-centered/self-absorbed like the kid in A Will Eternal; or Tilea in Tilea's Worries who conveniently interprets everything that happens around her as her little sister's chuunibyou
    7) My list has gotten unexpectedly long, and I'm feeling too lazy to think anymore, so I'll end it here.

Reading wise I like the arc better than 'Men of the Kingdom' arc (vol 5-6) but I think that arc will be a more popular anime adaptation than the lizard arc is.

It is fine in as long as it is kept short which they try to do as it seems. I feel it is needed so people that dont read books understand that nazarick is going around conquering shit and widening their territory

    couldn't agree more
The multiple POV on Overlord is one of the reason that gave depth to it.

I really enjoyed the Lizard Arc when I read it, but I can well understand why others wouldn't enjoy it.

With my experience, I watched season 1 of Papa Bones, then went crazy for more content and decided to read the novels (first LNs I ever read).

Main thing is that I started from the beginning.

The first three volumes have a lot of Ainz's perspective, but - unlike the show - they hop to different characters more than the anime ever did. This already sets you up for not being in Ainz's head, which is an important mind set to have before going into the Lizard Arc. Also one of the things I loved the most about this story is the complete disconnect between Ainz's perspective and the perspective of every other character.

Seeing a panicky modern man trying to pilot around his lich body and desperately trying to keep his image contrasted with his servants essentially seeing a living demigod was always one of my favourite aspects and the Lizard Arc epitomizes it. It is our first solid foray into an outside perspective on not only Ainz, but on Nazarick in general and we really begin to see exactly what kind of context Nazarick's armies have as they move into the world. Having a typical shonen fantasy story starring lizards (and really, when's the next time you're going to have a lizardman MC?) that's completely set up against the protagonist of all things is a rather unique story and truly begins to indicate Nazarick's power. It also teaches the reader a very important lesson: Ainz is not nice. Up until this point, we have seen Ainz kill baddies and even watched him murder some other adventurers that followed him too far, but for the most part Ainz is doing stuff that we, the readers, like seeing heroes do. He's saving village girls and killing thugs and murderers.

However, this is the first act we've ever seen from him where he chooses to run over an entire community for his own personal reasons. We quickly realize that Ainz is the type of person who actually means he pretty much doesn't care about anything besides Nazarick, and boy is that ever an important aspect of the character.

That all being said, if I had gone straight from the anime to lizards it would have been quite the shock and I would have been pretty mad at barely seeing the character I picked up the series for in the first place.

So, I think both sides have points. All depends on where you were coming from going in.
