I realised I overthink tonnes of things. Trying to discern some sort of underlying tonnes in a normal short conversation, like sarcasm, getting overworked on my conduct and the tiniest of mistake and thinking over stuff, like:"should I do this or not" on some of the very...common or ordinary stuff, like missing on classes, or bunking a bit, not listening to lectures, etc. I don't know if it's my sense of responsibility or sense of insecurity or both at work, but I do understand that me overthinking things, has led me to have insomnia, sleeplessness/restlessness for several nights. Sometimes I would become irritable at my mom, if she were to rebuke me a bit about...marks I guess?(that's a very sensitive subject for me) But even for myself I would think I'm a weirdo. I wasn't like this before, but maybe it's my teenage hormones at work. I have quite...extreme mood swings?like one moment I would be laughing out loud watching some funny vid(to get my mind off things) then at the other I would be crying like there's no tomorrow. I never knew I was a crybaby, at least before this I never "cried". I mean, not at the very least at such small things. Some of my friends and cousins have also experienced stuff similar to mine. I guess the quarantine has done a number on me.

To cleanse my mind, I usually do yoga and exercises in the morning and eat a balanced diet on a daily basis, but I guess it isn't doing much(since you can't go out, get along with your friends and stuff...at least not at the place we are living at. Though for the time being the statistics are drastically improving so hopefully we'll have a breather by the end of this month).

So I was asking, do you have some advice on how I can stop myself from "overthinking"?

Overthinking may be related to anxiety and insecurity, and can worsen depression. You need to learn to take a deep breath and sometimes simply let go. Try not to always dwell on the what-ifs. Not all activities require the same expenditure of time, thoughts and energy; learn to differentiate/prioritize by relative importance or you'll be a perpetual bundle of nerves and tired at the end of the day.

Edit: Just realized I need to take my own advice.

We can mind only our own actions. Don't overthink if the things are out of your control. Do what you can, be the best you can be, and don't mind the rest.

Edit: Just check stoicism or sth, i dunno xD

Try learning a new language or new skill to at least have something else to think of. You could also try to sort out exactly you're thinking these things at the root to eliminate them, like an inner demon that's hampering your cultivation. When you're getting out of sorts try to remember good things, do what Card Captor Sakura does and tell to yourself that everything is going to be alright.

I don't know about you, but I just do things. I throw my entire body into homework and I realised my essay is finished.
Or I put all of my effort into grinding runescape until my mind goes numb and I don't wanna think anymore.

take naps, tear up some of my old notebooks full of math and set it on fire, trim my bonsai tree, think about dumb things like ways I would consume glass if it wouldn't kill me or if I could make a bowl out of hair which is disgusting and none would eat out of it but dang would that be entertaining to make.

Usually, I'd also try to climb a tree but my arms are going to be out of commission for a while :blob_catflip:

Haha. I actually just picked up multiple skills this year, like computer programming, and painting...but I think I'm just keeping myself too pre occupied in my own thoughts that am not able to keep my thoughts and priorities clear. But in this regard, hobbies/picking up new skills/leisure time activities (like on NU...thank goodness I discovered this) were indeed helpful. So thank you:blobsmilehappy::blobsmilehappy::blobsmilehappy:

I'll make sure to take up on that, lest overthinking "parasitised" my life. (Though I do believe it is doing the same...but maybe it's all final year stress?:blobsweat::blobsweat::blobsweat:) Btw thanks for your concern:blobsmilehappy::blobsmilehappy::blobsmilehappy:

:blobwoah::blobwoah::blobwoah: Should I just join a sect on...."socialism" or smth to achieve this, Shizun?
I sometimes...do go a little overboard on myself with my work:blobsweat::blobsweat::blobsweat:Like I end up thinking,"What if they ask for that assignment tomorrow?"Despite knowing that that ain't gonna happen and then somehow cram that into my schedule or just pull off an all-nighter to do so, only to realise"Nope, wasn't due today". Seems like I do get pretty nervous on some petty stuff.(and I hate free time the most since it just reminds me of all the negative thoughts...I just overthink myself to sleep at times).

That... sounds a pretty feasible idea. Will try to take up some "reckless" activities in the near future (if my thoughts and mom do permit me).

...maybe you need a break and some time alone. Usually, you can't stop thinking and that's why you tend to get tired fast, that's because your brain needs time to rest.

Overthinking, usually, isn't productive as you'te limited by your own experience , so..you need new takes and input. You'll have to learn new stuff, learn to better cope with your emotions and so on. Overthinking, to me, it's similar with being distracted. Doing sports, occupying your mind by reading/resting or just resting could he of help.

Though, if that happens too often, you'll need to learn how to concentrate on what's on your hands. If it's sporadic, just try to detach yourself of the ,,urgency".

Sometimes, profesional help is needed and it's nothing wrong to ask and receive help.

Sometimes, having someone who can understand you, willing to listen and explore what's the trigger/topic could be of help.

    Good luck!

    For nothing!
I rarely am in the mood to write nowdays...so...

Anyway, wgen it comes to such situations, ypu can learn new stuff about what's happening. You can read articles, talk with similar people and so on. I see that you're already doing it. After you find some tricks regarding how to manage it, you just need to apply them and see what fits you. Have patience as there's always a period of time needed for adjustation(?). Also, don't give up and don't do anything rash!

    Good luck!

My dentist gives me life coaching while I'm getting my teeth cleaned and he's always saying practise mindfulness as a solution to anxiety/overthinking. Basically, recognise what the underlying anxiety is about & take steps to solve it. Followed by accepting that you're not perfect and there's no timeline for self improvement.
Now, I have anxiety about going to the dentist.

I used to have the same problem.
    One advice : Get busier.
If you're a chef or a cook and you still have some spare of mind to worry whether you left a stove on on your home or not then you're not burdened enough with work.

I rem me being 11 and my dentist giving me a book titled,"Tuesdays with Morrie". It was a great book. By the end, the death hit me the hardest, after all , he left behind such valuable lessons to the other person. There are books on human psyche and positivity at our home bec we live at our ancestral home...so it does have a small library...and I have read quite a few of them...though the positivity they imbibe are only able to cheer me up for that particular instant. Though I do believe proper practice of those stuff written there can help me drag myself out from this sort of negative mood.
I do the same. But during my sleep/short rest time I end up overthinking stuff, which is quite headache inducing.
