I would vote for a superduper exclusive membership fee = paywall

And with QI going paywall > no reason to continue posting about them on NUF > I won't stumble in the middle of the night into another QI thread made by some 'totally not related to them in any way, nor does my posting history makes me look suspicious' account.

And a tiny sidenote: Wouldn't it be more productive to ask this question on the QI forum? I mean the people there are willing to read on the site ...

For what it's worth, this has already been asked on the Qi Forum.

I normally wouldn't comment on a topic like this, but I like the J-Novel Club system, and you've touched a sore spot in creating any association between you and them.

When I had more time to read, I subscribed to J-Novel Club. In its current incarnation, I'd never subscribe to, or pay for, a service from webnovels.com. The biggest differentiating factor is that J-Novel Club offers a premium service. They have professional translators and editors. A great number of the translators and editors that Webnovels.com employs are far from professional. Errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and translation are far too common for most of the work done by webnovels.com to pass as a premium product. If you want me to pay, start hiring competent employees. quantity != quality.

TL;DR: I'd be happy to pay if the quality of your service were good. It's not, so I won't.

Thank goodness I'm translating from Syosetu, I don't have to get involved in this mess :sweating_profusely:
Translate for free what is written for free....

Edit: Anyway, I like adwall as it stands, but if QI ended up choosing between pay per chapter and subscription, I actually think subscription would be better because CN novels famously have tons and tons of chapters. For a 2000+ chapter series, that's $80 to finish reading at $0.04 per chapter, which is well beyond the scope of what most readers are willing or capable of paying.

Ultimately, though, I have two main objections to paywall. As @Jeebus noted, the quality of the translations is, on the whole, rather lacking to be considered a "premium service". On a more fundamental level, however, Chinese authors on Qidian are writing to fill word count because of Qidian's business model in China, which means that the novels themselves usually aren't as polished as what we'd get paying for Japanese or Korean novels (though still, admittedly, better than most works available for free).

Well, because they want to support the translators? Or because they know that the translations by Qidian International will only exist for as long as they're profitable? Or maybe because they don't want to support an aggregator site? Since those are a thousand times worse than Qidian.

Just a few small possibilities I guess, I could probably think of some more if I wanted to. *shrugs*
It would... I don't know why those people bother with posting this kind of thing on NU instead.

I have no idea what novel is Dark King and I couldn't care less, but I assume everyone that reads their translations is okay with their quality, so this point is moot.

No, don't listen to those leeches. Paywall all the way, please. Everytime someone make a thread about Qidian in NUF, a kitten dies horribly.

I bet 5 million Zimbabwe dollars that the same readers complaining about adwall will wish that we have them
when paying per chapters is required

Good point. You get what you pay for and customers can actually file complaints when they have a receipt to back it up:blobspy:

Your current standard is not good enough for the paywall.
Improve and impress us first, before we give you money.
