TCF is a monster of a novel with a lot of chapters, so I recommend that you digest it little by little so you don't get too overwhelmed. It does get repetitive, it really goes with the formula of cale wants to be a slacker, problem pops up, cale solves it, faints and repeat, but it's not like the "problem" is the same everytime. They fight in different situations, locations, with different arsenals and varying stakes on the line, etc. The tension is present, so it's not boring imo, the villain doesn't get his ass kicked in one shot, they are strong istg. The characters are decent, and the plot isn't just a never-ending saga (it might feel like that) but as far as I have read, the story is tying itself together and all those "repetitive things" might be important, who knows? Just give it a shot. Sorry for rambling lol
