Isn't that what I'm saying.. he only has ONE thing in his mind, and he'll spare nothing to do it, not even people's lives or any other moral values; that's how and why he got so strong in the first place.

Everything is a mental disease nowadays

He Who Fights With Monsters: Talent needed to progress: No. Requirements for progression: A (often notably large) initial investment into certain materials to gain (individual) skills to improve, training, and a willingness to throw yourself into life-threatening danger to advance your skills against real threats. Most advancements start to peter out around the middling power levels, at which point it becomes more difficult to improve. PS, the reason why I say that it doesn't take "Talent" is due to the fact that, within certain limitations, your skills are typically related to you, and the advancement is up to the effort you put in. And the fact that a major means of determining one's growth speed, regardless of their level of "talent" is how much combat, including combat against swarms of monsters, one gets into, or are willing to get into (after getting to the second highest stage of power, most seem to put less effort into advancing, for example). Please note, talent is still considered important, but less about their ability to get stronger, and more about their ability to win or survive fights. Also note, you would need to pay Amazon to read the beginning of this story.

This Quest Is Bullshit: Classes and Life Quests are given out by some floating stones that move whenever nobody's looking. The MC of this story gets The Messenger Girl Class and a Life Quest to go to the next town over and fetch some bread. It would be easy, if it wasn't for the fact that it's a Legendary Quest, so there's always some interference preventing her from getting some bread. Anyway, onto this actual thread topic, no, you don't need talent to progress and improve. Different "levels" of class need different experience requirements to improve, with higher ranked ones being more powerful but needing more experience, but all you really need to advance is to kill things, do sub-quests (tasks probably related to your class), and make headway on your life quest. Talent isn't applicable to growth, but your actions may result in gaining access to better class options when you reach a sufficient level to advance your class. Also note, chapters 3 to 90 are only on Amazon, so you'd have to pay for the beginning of this story, too.

The Path Of Ascension: This one's a bit mixed, in that it's possible to advance further, faster, and easier with talent and knowledge, but some of the required knowledge is kept from people because they have artificial ways to imitate what the talent is required for. Sorry for being confusing, this pops up in the middle of the story as it's currently written, so I'll give some details in a spoiler:
Growth in this story runs on a levelling system. You kill things in a dimensional rift of some kind, absorb a special energy that the killed monsters release, and process that energy to improve yourself. Think of an RPG Experience Point System, but have it's use be on a timer, so you need to reach the next important point in your growth soon enough or else all the Exp you gain would be wasted.

That's the base system, upon which everything else is built upon. To reach past, I believe, level's 5, 15, and 25, you need more to advance than just the Exp to level, however. Specifically, there's two ways to advance past level 5 & 15. The first way, which requires talent, is to form a representation of yourself that resonates appropriately, allowing you to improve past the threshold. The second way is to take a potion that's specifically made to simulate the effects of that internal representation, but imputing an artificial imitation of it. It won't be as good, or useful, as the real thing, but it advances you further, and your lifespan becomes seemingly limitless after reaching rank 15, so... Anyway, to reach rank 25, you do need your own images for Rank 5, Rank 15 and Rank 25 thresholds, but you can form them after reaching the prior ranks, so it's more beneficial for society at large to advance as many people beyond rank 15 and have them correct themselves afterwards than it is to just have as many people as possible wait until they reach their limits in order to reach rank 5.

Sorry about two of my recommendations have beginning hidden behind paywalls, but I felt that they fit this request, and thus included them.

In Demons of Astlan, for titular demons, they are as strong as the summoner gets convinced of their cunning and strength.

How it goes is Native Astlanians can see spirits, but are bat blind on the Astral Plane and think people from other realities are all demons. Their first summoning means mana bindings and they only use more skill and power to put you in them if you fight them off well, but fail to escape despite knoeing jack about your situation beyond it being the worst drug trip of your life.

Oh, and being bound in stronger restrictions is important because those first bindings empower you immensely (its bits and pieces for other summons besides first) and being ranked higher means better life both in Hell (yes, all the slaves are stuffed into local trash bin realm and depend on personal strength for status in that mixed society) and Astlan (your "master" is way more careful and less likely to punish you whenever the higher your power and ability to fuck them over).

Locals still depend on talent until death, at which point it just depends on their contribution how much power their gods grant them to serve beyond the grave.

Second Coming of Gluttony. Yes, its filled with people who speak of talent or have some (like the chick with Swordheart), but the real power is Levels gods only grant in exchange for merits in fighting TotallyNotZerg.

So a person's power is actually equal to their contribution in resisting said invasion.

Amazon Prime is a subscription service that the company Amazon provides. If you are paying for/have access to Amazon Prime, you should have access to Kindle Unlimited on the same account as a result, which should be able to give you access to both of those stories for free as a side effect of your Amazon Prime subscription.

    Try this novel.

MC gets stronger mostly under a Dungeons & Dragons system, so talent doesn't matter as much. The world MC is in operates under D&D rules. And MC tries and trains really hard to survive under the impending cataclysm.
