To move the story forward, and actually give the MC proper motivation.
And also, people need to die for it to live up to it's name.

I think it krilin from dragon ball. With his low power he keep living even when against really strong opponent. and when he die MC bring him back to live using dragon ball

I know the MC needs to have motivation but... I just hope some random character that we don't emotionally relate to be the one that will die. Like Qin Yu and the city that was destroyed by the guy from Zhou clan.
