Discussion Pokemon and Gacha Games

So when I was browsing for some Funny Pokemon Games review on YouTube, I got some ads about a gacha games called Azur Lane. At that time I thought...

"Gee, Gacha games sure are popular these days. I wonder why, maybe it's because it's human desire to collect them all..."

Then suddenly, I had an epiphany.

"...hmm? Collect them all? Collect... Catch... Catch em' all!? GOTTA CATCH EM' ALL! That's it! POKEMON IS THE GRANDFATHER OF ALL GACHA GAMES!!"

...And that's how we got here.

Now before you reply to this thread to comment about how wrong I was, let's look at all the similarities:

In pokemon games, you catch pokemon, you get the pokemon, you battle with pokemon, you level pokemon, you catch more pokemon, you got more pokemon, and the cycles continue.

In gacha games, you roll gacha, you get a waifu, you battle with waifu, you level waifu, you roll more gachas, you got more waifus, and the cycles continue.

See, it's very similar. The only difference is in the first part. Where instead of looking in the tall grass for a waifu, you roll gachas for one (Unless your waifu is a Gardevoir. In which case, you need help man. It's a pokemon for God sake).

Anyway, I know that's where the similarities end, but that is also the core of these two games mechanic.

Collect, battle, grind, and repeat.

So, what do you guys think? Is Pokémon really the granddaddy of all Gacha games?

though there's still an aspect of RNG, i'd say it's not a gacha game if there's no noticeable advantage for wallet warriors to enjoy.

i say it different because pokemon doesnt have that luck factored involved as much as a gacha game does

 

pokemon is the perfect gatcha singe there's little to no RNG involved

 

A bit different from my perspective.
Gacha goes with random getting things with given chances and within a limit of choices. And now either you pay for a roll or grind to get a roll.

While pokemon isnt random. Theres a specific route, tile and grass where you can catch a pokemon.

Only similarity is collecting and chances.

 

Your arguments actually make sense. They are in fact similar, but you missed the fact that there are more types of gacha than just "collect, battle , grind" waifus'. So it's more like that specific type of gacha is congruent with Pokemon, so is digimon, mario(coins and princesses) mortal combat(characters), any fps game(collecting guns?) , MMOS (collecting avatars and equipment) or anything really since they are all in basic terms "GAMES" as even in tag or hide and seek, you need to 'Catch em all' to win. I'm not refuting or anything.... Just stating facts.

Sigh, I will never catch that latios...

But none of the 3 starters from generation 3 evolved into a dragon... There's a lizard, but it just evolved into tree gecko thingy...

Also, am I the only one that think the best waifu is the alternative female main character Dawn? No? Okay...

 

there is actually rng involved in pokemon. like the nature of the pokemon you catch is random, some legendaries like to roam in the field appearing at random, or that you might spend dozens of ultraball and couldn't catch a legendary but suddenly you can catch it with pokeball instead.
