Is the game any good? Heard mixed opinions about it. Most people say it is kinda lame from veteran player perspective

Not sure, but a lot of the complaints from the veteran players are just sour grapes because of the abbreviated pokedex. I mean if they had really put in all 800+ pokemon, half those complaining now would instead be complaining about how much time it takes to fill the pokedex so their opinion may not be worth all that much.

You can't transfer from past version? I heard they made another version of Pokemon bank. It's senseless if you can't transfer from sun moon with this feature.

to put it simply they reduced the Pokemon number in the game. So only a bit more than half of your pokemon can be transferred over to it

That is false, a significant number of the veteran player base feels lied to. The developers said that they had to cut out the pokedex because they were creating the pokemon models from scratch and adding new animations. However, data-miners found out that the pokemon models were the same as the 3ds and previous versions. It honestly feels rushed out to coincide with the anime.

The veteran players were also asking for more mega evolutions, next were the criticism of the pokemon in this set that look unexciting. The pokemon designs do not look that good either, except a few like Ponyta and etc which are unique. Then there was the promise that with the addition of the poke bank you could transfer your old pokemon to any new future pokemon game.

And the list goes on. It's not only the pokedex, there are many more issues here. The game just feels underwhelming compared to its predecessors. It should not be worth $60 with this quality. I personally don't want another Fallout 76 down the road for Pokemon.

Having beating the game (in a nuzlocke) it feels like 1 step toward, 2 steps back.

Its even more railroady then previous games, with routes between towns being really short... The wild areas are nice, but if you explore too much, its easy to run into Pokemon you can't catch and will wipe out your party.

Plot is.. Not very good. Other then the gym challenge, your character isn't investing in anything else... You kinda save the world at the end because you were at the right spot to awaken some special doggos... And when that's resolved, you really just feel relief that you can go back and fight the champion. Because everything was interrupting your final league matches tourney thing.

Its ok for some mindless fun, but it has its problems.
