[Poll] What percentage of your net worth do you have in investments?

This is a finance question. Recently, I’ve been learning a lot more about it, so here are some definitions if you’re not familiar with the terms:

Net worth: Estimate the amount of money of everything that you own (that you could potentially sell and turn into money). This includes cars, houses, money in bank, stocks, etc. Subtract the amount of money you owe in debt from this value.

Investment: An investment is money you have in anything that will grow substantially in value over time. This commonly refers to money in stocks, bonds, real estate/houses, etc.

Money you have sitting in the bank (checkings accounts or savings accounts) does not count as an investment because the interest rate is so low, in most cases it’s lower than inflation so you lose money over time.

What percentage of your net worth do you have in investments?

If you’re okay with sharing, can you tell us your appromixate age and financial status? (eg. poor/middle/wealthy)? It’s fine if it’s too personal and don’t want to share though!

Wouldn't most of the things you buy with money be considered a investment?

 

Many things depreciate in value over time.

For instance, if you buy a new car, 10 years later you will sell it for less (used) than you bought it, so you didn’t gain any money.

 

That's what I put in the first place.
But I need better ones to choose from!
Students mustn't have to choose that, it's too bland!

been investing in the stock market, up 15k since i started a while back... averages out to 8% return for the past few years

 

Your doing it wrong, you should invest all your money, then put your friends on your will. Then you'll know very well when you'll die.

I put 80-100%, and it is actually the case... well property where I live is pretty expensive but in general I keep most of the money in the bank.
