:hmm::hmm::hmm: Random shower thought that I had.

You were transmigrated into an isekai universe, but the social norms are different in this world than on Earth.

Specifically, body hair is universally considered disgusting, both on men and women.

Any kind of body hair (regardless of how fine/thin/sparse), is broadly regarded by society as disgusting. If you walk outside with any body hair showing (except your head hair and eyebrows), people will wrinkle their noses at you and openly remark on your appearance. People will say that you are unhygienic and unprofessional for work and you look like a homeless person.

Both men and women are expected to shave their body hair every day. It is a routine part of everyone's personal hygiene routine (e.g. brushing teeth, morning bathroom, washing face, defecating, urinating, etc). Furthermore, nearly everyone goes for full-body waxing every month. Waxing salons are as common as hair salons on Earth, and people will think that you are disgusting if you are stingy on basic hygiene (waxing).

For the male Nuffians who do not understand, waxing is painful and involves pulling out the hair on your body after applying wax. However, it does a more thorough (and longer-lasting) job than just shaving.

Note: There is extensive skin-care and skin-maintenance routines and products expected for both genders as well. However, for the simplicity of the poll, this part is left out as well.

    1. Would you shave your body hair every day and wax every month if society expected you to? What if society saw you as disgusting if you didn't do it?

    2. If your loved one wanted you to remove your body hair, would you do it?

    3. How much time/pain/effort are you willing to go through to look good? What if it takes a significant amount of time/pain/effort to look "average" for your gender?

    Sure

    Sure

Reasonably with out overwhelming my other obligations

What if it takes a significant amount of time/pain/effort to look "average" for your gender?
Sure since I would be conditioned by society that it is the norm.

This is a transmigration scenario not a reincarnation scenario.

Consequently, you did not grow up in this world.

This is a hairy issue, indeed. :blobpeek:

But pain and I don't get along well. So, no waxing. I'd trim my hairs at most.

However, if there's a magical, painless way of removing body hair, I wouldn't mind doing it.

    Electrolysis to save the day....
Why shave, when you can have a technician zap your hair follicles into nonexistence.

I would shave since it's a social norm but no waxing since it hurts both me and my wallet. :sweating_profusely: People who wax frequently are clearly masochists. :hmm:

That sounds like a waste if money...just like getting your nails done...I hate this world. Would rather live with the monsters and be their slave for human cuisine.

I guess I could just wear lots of clothing..:hmm: better be in a very cold place though.

:hmm::hmm::hmm: I have to check this, but isn't this also painful and expensive?

Well, I guess if you're going to shave frequently I guess the investment would pay off from an economic standpoint.

...Still not sure if I would do it though. :notlikeblob: Kind like there are weird moments of strange ethical/moral conflict.

I don't know if it's preconceived notion or anything else, but I wouldn't mind shaving/waxing. However electrolysis sounds scary lol.

    - - -

Also, this poll seems very unpopular. :blobrofl::blobrofl::blobrofl:

There's quite a few "I do not wish to answer" quite early on (currently the most popular selection).

But to be fair, this poll isn't even that implausible. In Qing dynasty china, men had long hair and they shaved parts of their head.

It shouldn't be surprising that landing in a new world could have different social norms.

    1. I would so that i can fit in society
    2. Sure
    3. I am a lazy person who doesn't take care of his appearance that much so probably not much. I don't mind not being average then if it has to take too much effort

I actually googled this shortly after I came up with this idea, and apparently some female quora respondents say that they shave every day, and I was shocked -- because that seems like a lot! I don't even shower every day! Although I'm kind of lazy about these things........

Can be on the expensive side and multiple treatments are needed, but once the hair is gone it stays gone for an extended period of time and in most cases doesn't grow back at all. As for pain, tell me waxing doesn't hurt.... and shaving, there is always the irritation when things grow back, typically with sharp pointy ends or are ingrown..
Likely only went in for one round. It does take multiple treatments for it to completely remove the hair follicle.

They didn't have a choice since people who refused the Queue Order were seen as rebels and executed.

Yes, but even before the queue order, adult Han Chinese men never cut their hair.

    From Wikipedia:
And you can also generalize to tons of other societies. Japanese samurai had pretty weird hairstyles, the Scots wore kilts, footbinding... the listen of strange social phenomena is extremely long........ however, in many circumstances it is predominantly strange to the traveler and less so to the local inhabitant.

You can't choose that option since this is a test whether you'll follow social norms even if they're stupid. :blobwoah:
