    1. Optional Question: What is your 13 episode outline? What is the main theme of your anime? What is the targeted demographic and genres?
Let's do a mix of charismatic historical characters genderbender with zero fan service. The plot will be dramatic and have an open ending. Mostly a mess. I don't have a specific target.
    2. Optional Question: Would you make a proposal based something you like? Or would you try to be "meta" and guess what the producer (@lychee) likes?

Just want to try something peculiar. An anime that have only his characters' personality and speeches as appeal.
    3. Optional Question: Fruitable Studios doesn't have its own in-house animation team. Instead, we use our boatload of money to subcontract the animation work to other animation studies. Which animation studios / animators would you want us to subcontract the work to? Do you have an idea for voice actors and soundtrack/music?

For studio I just need a decent one. It's not going to be action driven so I don't need studio that can make incredible battles. For the voices, it's going to be very picky. They are going to be different yet all will make me feel I can believe in their words.
    4. Optional Question: What factors are important for making a good television anime?

Returning to @Westeller 's rant, I think the industry's fail to understand that uniqueness is not enough to make a good show neither fan service. There are many show that during the transition light novel/manga to anime got hurt for trying to be more unique or adding more fan service. I personally more interested in games(I'm interested in game design specifically) so I will use games as example. Not matter you are a big company or a indie, you should follow the 3C (cleanness, cleverness and creativity). The game industry focus too much into creativity. Very complicated gameplay with questionable UI and straightforward solution. Very beautiful background and characters but lacklustre gameplay with many bugs.
Hollow knight follow the 3C perfectly. The gameplay is very simple but it's also very deep. The world and storytelling is creative without going overboard. But using a masterpiece as example seem a bit too easy so I will pick a bit more infamous game: Hearthstone.
It's a game from a big company and it had questionable design decisions, but it's still one of the most played card game. Why? Because it's simple yet you can make so many decisions (except when the meta is cancer but it's flaw that all TCG have). You can be creative con you deck and there many creative effect without getting overwhelmed.
Anyway if someone ask me what kind of game I want, I will answer just a classic turn-based jrpg. Nothing fancing. I believe any indie company can make a good turn based jrpg and sell well. Afterall Persona 5 still sold well.
    5. Optional Question: Why do you think your anime will be a successful hit?
Because people are craving for some interesting? I mostly decide to made this concept just to test if people are interested in something like this.

Only accepting original works as submissions!
I like how this starts! How does the show resolve? Are there any antagonists? Supporting characters? What sort of challenges does the protagonist experience that they must overcome?

I like your suggestion! Parody can work in the right circumstances!

As for creativity and immersion, all forms of media are a kind of business. When the objective of a studio is to make money, the content creators have weird restrictions on their head to fulfill those required stipulations.

A majority of popular anime are adaptations of manga or light novel — and their primary form of revenue is to serve as marketing to encourage customers to buy the original source material. Consequently, many anime intentionally end open-ended — or even on a cliffhanger — to lure people into wanting to know what happens next.

As for the cliche and “questionable” nature of anime and other forms of popular media — I think this is really fascinating because you have to wonder why things become popular and successful and make a lot of money. Is it a fault of the original author/artist for creating a trashy original work? Or the producer of the anime to dump fan service to entice otaku to buy the uncensored blu-ray? Or is it the fault of the community for liking these things and buying them in droves despite the fact that they are unoriginal, cliche, or problematic?

It’s sort of interesting to me!

I think there’s a fine line to toe between commercialism and art — and I think a majority of people have a strong connection to their sense of art (the animators/authors themselves), but there are competing interests that distort the final product.

It takes a lot of money to produce many forms of media, and disentangling the trace of money throughout it is sort of an intriguing adventure!

Also, I would personally avoid broad categorical statements like: “All poetry is bad!” — because these are mediums of expression that are agnostic to the content. For all you know, there is media out there that doesn’t adhere to the sweeping categorical statement that is made.

I’m curious about more details! There’s very little you’ve given me here!

What do you mean by historical characters? What’s the setting and focus? Why is the plot dramatic?

    I’d love to hear more!

Original is a very susceptible term. The book was published in 2005. Arthur died in 2008. So it’s been over a decade since it’s been around. Also Frankowski self-published Lord Conrad's Crusade after a dispute with Baen. He had no family as far as I know. I don’t see a reason we couldn’t use it.
Although Bean does have his best works “ Conrad Stargard: The Radiant Warrior “.

I haven’t quite decided how the show ends: either with the MC happily returning home, or some companions making their way to Earth and making a life together here. Probably the former, as the latter seems too cliché.

Antagonists: people who want to harm the MC and steal his cookies! His greatest enemy and ally will be a giant talking hamster! (To be voiced by Minagawa Junko in the Japanese, SGL in English.) There won’t be any villains, just people who are sometimes good, sometimes bad, with in-depth characterization. There will be a sentient meat bun who was nice to him at first, but became mean! A pickle person who likes to bully him! A magical being that gives him hats! And a refreshing tea and cookie lady who always treats him well!

    Challenges:
Finding that the house he is been isekai’d to comes with a video game console complete with games that he is an antagonist of! Coming to grips with his video game nature! Trying to navigate the world and find friends on the internet! Trying to understand people’s strange references! Trying to show that he may be an antagonist but he is a good (?) person! >_> ... at least he’s cute. And Ikémen. And lovable!

Hmm, in the context of TV anime, “original” has a very different meaning and purpose.

The purpose of “original” TV anime series is to showcase the abilities of the animation studio to develop reputability and attract publishers to form future contracts with the animation studio. It is a form of marketing for the studio itself.

Unlike adaptions, original anime don’t really make money for the animation studio. Rather, they burn money (you can classify it as a kind of advertising), so most animation studios air far fewer original anime than adaptions.

With manga or light novel or game adaptions, often times the publisher approaches the animation studio and offers a contract paying the studio to make the anime.

In your case, where the original work is already out there / doesn’t need advertising, the opposite would be the case. Rather than the publisher paying the studio, the studio would need to contact the book publisher to pay licensing/royalty fees to use their original material — which runs the opposite of the business model for most anime.

That kind of model usually happens more for box office films — because movies gross substantially more money through movie ticket sales. TV animation on the other hand, depends entirely on advertising revenue — which isn’t much for the late night slots that most anime air on.

If I really were an anime producer, I think it would be important to focus the budget on an original anime that showcases the talent of the animation studio. Using a derivative work often lends to the argument “oh it’s only successful because the original work was good” — and it restricts the studio from taking creative license to adapt the content to suit their purposes — whether it is to show off the awesome sakuga action/battle sequence animators they have or their fantastic cloud/water background artists they have in-house.

    1. Optional Question: What is your 13 episode outline? What is the main theme of your anime? What is the targeted demographic and genres?

    episode 13 outline: none!
main theme: A charismatic nature fanatic gets superpowers and saves the world. He got cought doing it. He really, really doesnt like humans due to bad experiences, and as such decided to keep a `mask´ up in public. Sadly, due to his actions, he has become quite popular. The anime would be about the consequences that has, his life going forward, and him somehow dealing with all the glory seekers trying to get close to him, while developing an online relationship and that entire can of worms.

targeted demographic: wazzat, is it food?
more serisouly, due to the nature of it, it'd probably be for an older audience. Maybe with a slight focus on the cynical and romantics out there

    2. Optional Question: Would you make a proposal based something you like? Or would you try to be "meta" and guess what the producer (@lychee) likes?

I do what I always do, and that is to repeat what my brain says, like a meat-sack parrot. after putting it into a somewhat understandable format, I think.

    3. Optional Question: Fruitable Studios doesn't have its own in-house animation team. Instead, we use our boatload of money to subcontract the animation work to other animation studies. nope and none!

Gotta catch them all! (the hearts, that is) Get your audience emotionally involved, one way or another.

    5. Optional Question: Why do you think your anime will be a successful hit?

    .....because its mine?

Let's make a pseudo summary of the plot. I could probably add more characters and plot but currently doesn't have much time for a proper research and someone else could probably do better.
In a fantasy world with magic, Caesar(Female) and Alexander(Female) are fighting with their army. There will be any actually fighting scene. At best army that changes. The main focus will be the two talking to each other, crashing their believes of what make a king a king and insulting/taunting the other's tactics. There will be 3 skirmishes and 3 discussion in the first episode, to show their might and greatness.
The episode will end with a house in a village destroyed by the many skirmish of the two army(neither could gain a clear advantage) where a light was shining toward a praying Jeanne d'Arc(Male). I cannot describe his adventure(who he will meet and how he will grow) but he will until death rally people to fight against Caesar and Alexander's tyranny.
In a neutral city somewhere there will Mozart(female) silently playing a piano and Nostradamus(female) doing a soliloquy about Caesar and Alexander foolishness against fate before laughing loudly and disappear in the shadow. Then a flashback with Mozart and Salieri(female) where Salieri trying to stop Mozart from doing a certain ritual and ending with her blaming herself for not being good enough to take Mozart's spot.
Civir war was waging in Caesar and Alexander territory. It wasn't enough to stop them but enough for Brutus(female)and Alexander's daughter(?) betrayal.
More war, more drama, more mozart playing piano, more important historical characters.
The last episode will end with mozart for the first time talking(all the silent piano play was for this moment), talking about her hope and dreams and on the last note vanish like mist.

Mire than this is too much effort for me.

In a world of magic and danger, a simple "unmarriable" peasant woman braves the mountain peaks that overshadow her village in order to strike a deal with the Harpie Queen. She promises to let her take her heart and become hers for eternity, in exchange for an illusionary perfect husband who will last until her sickly father's death - as he's unable to pass peacefully knowing that there's no one to take care of her.
Several months later, she finds herself serving as the queen's sole lady-in-waiting, living a life of luxury while she grieves her father and a husband that never existed. Worse: she's been informed that humans who give themselves to a harpie as she promised to will become harpies themselves.
Meanwhile, the queen is facing the end of her people. A neighbouring human king raises modern firepower against the harpies, aiming to build a trade route through the mountains and remove the "tyranny of female power" that keeps the surrounding kings in check. Her only way of saving them all is to triple her power by taking a human's heart and having them become hers - but it's a difficult process that she's never succeeded at.
Introducing a refreshing new anime exploring the murky barrier between illusion and reality, the tension between practical society and personal freedom, and cross-cultural love of the highest degree~!

Some notes for this anime: I think that aiming for an enchanting and mysterious atmosphere, like in Studio Ghibli's films, would work best. There are going to be no lolis and no weird sexual fanservice. The harpies are all super hot adult ladies in skimpy clothing, though, so that should make up for it when it comes to marketing.

Alright it has been roughly two days so I'm going to go through and give my picks!

It's a cute response, but I don't really want to see an anime about a fruit, even if it's a lychee xD Rejected!

I didn't really understand the draw of this, and I also couldn't tell how much sarcasm was in this suggestion. In either case, I'm not really sold on piggybacking on an existing entity. Rejected!

I had to think really carefully about this one, but ultimately my feelings are that I'm not sold on the protagonist being interesting enough. I kind of get that the purpose is to give the viewer a person to self-insert into, but if the protagonist is weak without a strong supporting cast, I don't really see a successful future. Introverted characters have to be approached very cautiously, and I think they're very difficult to pull off well. I really like the thematic and surrealistic elements of this -- and some of my favorite anime fall into this genre (e.g. Flip Flappers, Mawaru Penguindrum) -- but the plot needs more work to give it focus if the characters are weak.

Thank you for sharing the idea though! It's really cool to see the kind of thoughts you have rolling around!

    Not an original work :blobcry:

I was verryyyy tempted by this one, partially because I'm biased and I would love to see an anime with @Anra7777 in it. :blobrofl: I think there's a lot of room for crazy and comedic stuff in this, but I'm also worried about a lack of focus. Your suggestion feels a bit like a cross between HataMaou and DragonMaid -- which both involve otherworlders coming to Earth. However, I feel like something is coming up short. Something is missing!

I was seriously tempted by this one though. :notlikeblob: Good work!

Rejected on the basis that it can easily balloon into a lot of political drama! :blobxd:

Wow, this is really intriguing! I'm really impressed!

I feel like this may make a better novel though. Complex dialogue and ideas are a little bit easier to convey in written form, and I'm kind of nervous about huge soliloquies breaking up the flow of an action scene. It's a very thoughtful and cerebral idea, although animation is a kind of medium where delivering a message through "showing" is generally a better idea than text-walling.

A lot of information is revealed in the first episode, probably a little bit too much to digest at once. Perhaps an alternate consideration is to build up on the amount of information that is revealed slowly over time, yet frame the novel around a superficial simpler plot that is easier to understand. Then, toss a twist midway through and then slam the theme for a home run!

I like your focus on theme and imagery. I like the pieces of Mozart and some of the historical twists. However, it leans a little bit on the complex side -- may be a little dense for a viewer to get into.

Needs more characters! XD Not enough drama! Who's the antagonist? :blobxd::blobxd::blobxd:

Ooof, this one is a tough call for me. I think this would make a really great manga for sure.

The protagonist is interesting and I'm really curious about learning more about him. I'm curious about the "online relationship" piece and what sort of conflict the show would have. What is the climax and the resolution? If you know what I mean. Needs more details and discussion, but I like it! :aww: I think it's the closest to something I would personally really enjoy to see come to life.

:aww::aww::aww: Amazing idea! I like pretty much all parts of it! The dark nature of this anime is something I'm slightly conflicted about, and it gives off slight vibes of Howl's Moving Castle but even darker. The structure of this almost suits a feature-length film better than a television anime... I think. I would love to see this, but I'm not sure if this kind of anime is the right move for an animation studio trying to produce an original anime that serves as advertising for itself. I think my feedback might be that it would be good to have some kind of light of hope, or a silver lining somewhere -- otherwise it becomes all doom and gloom and I'm worried a television anime watcher will drop the anime after the first two episodes. :blob_teary:

    ------------

Ooof, this is a really hard pick. :blobsad:

Uh, I think I'm going to award @Tilgarial because I kind of like the idea of an "afterstory" anime -- what happens after the hero saves the world. I think there's a lot of room to develop this kind of story in a clear and concise way, action sequences to show off the studio's animation abilities, and it has the potential to be a mainstream anime that could be a blockbuster.

Another critical point is that I think it's very important not to overestimate the amount of content that can be fit in 13 episodes. I think some of the proposals were a bit overambitious, and lacked a strong theme/message that I think could realistically packaged into a 13-episode cour. The simplicity of this Tilga's is really enticing to me.

Thank you everyone! It was really fun reading everyone's ideas! Thank you for taking the time! :bloblove::bloblove::bloblove:

Yeah, it's quite dark... That's why I thought that it needed that Ghibli sort of atmosphere. They're the masters of making dark and scary things bearable and interesting instead, mostly by making it into a spectacular magical journey~!
There are glimmers of hope, though, since the anime would focus mostly on the growing romance between the queen and the MC. I was also planning to have the ending be the queen offering to set her free and return her illusion husband for the rest of her life, but she decides to stay and then saves the queen by stabbing the king. And because that's the moment when she realises that she loves the queen and wants to stay with her forever, she becomes a harpie~! (And then the queen hulk smashes the enemies.)
That's at the end, though. I was struggling to lighten up the start.

Maybe the opening romance would be enough to get them invested in the anime before the husband ends? Or maybe the desire to see the sexist king die horribly would keep them going.

But I think this is too long for just a film. You would probably need three episodes for the start, to really introduce the father, her situation, and the love between her and the husband before he left. Then only three episodes at the end for the finale, probably? The rest would be them getting to know each other and the small skirmishes/build-up. It would be too rushed to be satisfying if you tried to squeeze it into a film.

My creative muscles are exhausted for the day. But here goes nothing...

Synopsis: It'll be a romance, action story. The main character will be a sandman, someone who is contracted by the actual sandman to slay nightmares in a sector. Sandmen can travel to the dreamscapes of others. Dreamscapes are what the conscious mind inhabits when sleeping, each has their own set of rules (magic systems, past present or future settings). The hook of the story is that people can never remember their conscious 8 or so hours in the dreamscape, and our MC and a girl fall in love inside the dreamscape. In the real world the MC will be, idk, a fisherman. And the girl will be, idk, someone who hates their small town and wants nothing more than to leave. And each and every time they meet in the real world, they get this uncontrollable feeling, a feeling that screams attraction and trust and love and all that other mushy stuff. But they have no idea why so they try their best to ignore that feeling. One of them is fine with just spending time in the dreamscape, while the other wants more, in the "real world".

    1. Optional Question: What is your 13 episode outline? What is the main theme of your anime? What is the targeted demographic and genres?
First two episodes will introduce the MC and world. Next episode will show a day in the real life of the MC. And then the next 6 episodes will vary from him slaying nightmares and getting closer to the girl. Last 4 episodes will be the confrontation between the two and resolution.

The main theme will be one of reality and illusion and what differentiates them.

    Everyone is the demo.

Edit: Actually, that's a bad theme. I can think of a better one. Uhhhh, uhhh, no, no I can't. At least not right now. But not that theme.

There’s westie the trusty mod who is after Tony’s affection. But secretly he’s working for the opposition to sabotage Tony every step of the way.

There’s das the rebel. Everyone sees him as the one who is rebelling against Tony. But actually das loves Tony and doesn’t know how to show it. Every time he does something he gets misunderstood.
