They now paywalled all chapters beyond volume 1 of any novel that went premium.

It's actually really retarded no matter how much i think about it.

I don't get how they make money on it to be honest with their high priced pay wall averaging at 14 spirit stone per chapter.(they start at 12 and increases per chapter, they randomly drop but theyre only 1 spirit stone from previous, so if chapter 101 is 12, 102 would be 13 or 14, if its a drop it'll only be 11 spirit stone, its more likely for the next chapters to increase to 16 - this is the highest i've seen and i've seen plenty of 14s and 15s, i don't know if they go up higher than 16 and i couldn't care less so i stopped scrolling down to check)

Let's say a novel with 1000 chapter went premium. An average volume 1 would be 100 chapters.

900 of those 1000 chapters will be behind paywall. That's 12,600 spirit stones at 14 spirit stone per chapter(Average). for 900 chapters.

You can buy 3250(2500 + 750 bonus) spirit stone for 49.99 dollars.

To read those 900 chapters behind paywall you'd have to spend 195 dollars.

That's just one novel, how many novels are at premium currently in qidian and i predict in the future all their popular novels will go premium. So you would have to pay per chapter past volume 1.

Most CN novels goes past 1000 chapters, 1000 chapters is already rare, 2000 chapters length is already a minimum, maximum i've seen is almost 6000 chapters.

You can just imagine how much money you'll be wasting on that shit and we are also not taking into account the most important part, 95% of those novels will have thousands of filler chapters and trashy plot(they fluctuate up and down to pump more chapters).

I'll stop here to be honest, at this point i don't see any decent human with a decent brain would spend money on spirit stones unless they're super rich and let's be honest here, the rich ones don't read fantasy novels online, they have plenty of options in real life for their money to spend on. Most readers here are poor to average, above average at best in economic standard.

With all that said, i see qidian's premium as retarded, very retarded at that. They would probably earn more money from the 4-5 spirit stone with an ad option.

It doesn't take a genius to calculate which option will earn more money, there's a reason why the most popular and most grossing games are free to play. Pay wall only works for proper works of literature like harry potter/lotr books and even then they're cheap.

For a big website/company, qidian is very disappointing. Especially for a chinese one that supposedly be good at business(racial stereotype).

This is standard operating procedure for chinese and korean webnovels on qidian and munipia. Paywall after the first 50 chapters or so is how they have been doing it for at least 8 years now.

Haven't you seen microtransactions in mobile? It works the same exact way. Most people earn free stones + refer people and they make money on the whales.

 

Yes, some chapters are 15-16 ss and others are 5-6 ss based on the word count... I just farm ss from multiple accounts

 

Just a funny story. I have about eleven fake accounts. I got my friend into reading webnovels and he was complaining about how novels require SS with the paywall. I asked him if he made any fake accounts, and it turned out that he spent about FORTY bucks on SS.

 

That is why we smart peeps *read: poor peeps* tend to read it .... anyway you know what i mean. I'd rather spend money on Legendary tier weapon on games rather than this. As much as i appreciate TL's hardwork, lets just face it i dont have that much capital to spend on things i wont read again after the first second i finished it.

What i meant by that is they make more money with a stable stream of tens or hundreds of users viewing ads per day than a few people paying for ss which can be farmed everyday on multiple accounts.

They could've added some other type of revenue to be honest, i've seen them where you have to participate in some survey per 10 chapter read.

My point is that, there are plenty of other ways to get a more stable revenue without alienating customers by blocking them with a pay wall.

Sure people will complain about them but at the end of the day you can still read them, when the 4-5 spirit stone or watch ad option was applied, i've seen plenty of people complain and i really couldn't understand since i was willing to watch some ads to read the chapters but now you would have to spend money.

not only have they reduced the free spirit stones they give out(everyday + invite friends + new acc 100spirit stone bonus is practically gone), they also increased the amount of spirit stone per chapter.

 

This would be a valid point if it was some years ago but now authors abuse word count and chapter count to make more money which in turn makes qidian's premium cancerous as hell.

Those greedy old uncles and aunties in novels are true. They really do worship money, maybe they've set up an altar with spirit stones.

 

I don't want people to misunderstand, not saying it as an insult. But we have to be realistic here. If i was rich, i wouldn't be spending money here, plenty of other options out there in the real world and in the virtual world.

At this point, paying for porn is much better than paying for filler chapter and porn is free.

 

Ok. Let me tell you why you're wrong. If they were to say one shot these novels, and put em at...hey why not that $195 you were talking about. Who the fuck would buy it for one.

Two, who would translate for months and months to finish those chapters, even if there was a team involved...team projects often fail if not fail more than solo projects.

Three, I don't know if I speak for everyone, but I barely ever finish a really long CN unless it's really good, you calculated it'd cost people about $195...what if they don't finish it, or drop after 40 chapters. The system is there because when they were first trying out methods for online publishing they tried everything until they figured out only this works. Use your brain not your heart. Your outrage is meaningless.
