Looking for Book series/TV series/Movie series like Harry Potter. Specifically I'm looking for something similar to how Harry spends several years at Hogwarts learning magic, I'm looking for academia in a fantasy world. The Magicians on SyFy is the only other example I can think off. Must be published (so not translated/indie novel) and preferably a lengthy series rather than a one-off book or movie. Much thanks.

The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni. The 1st book is Akarnea and currently there are 4 books published with one more to come. (synopsis copied from Goodreads)
Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities. Desperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her... but he's missing.

While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming.

An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?

Will Alex risk her entire world—and maybe even her life—to save Medora?

Man...if you just wanted the magic and not the school life, I would have recommended the Dresden Files.

The tapestry series. Has 5 books. I liked it a lot. The first book is called the hound of rowan. It's by Henry H. Neff. The first one is still good, but not as good as the others, but After the first book one it picks up a lot. The fifth book is only an e book unfortunately though.

This one is more of a children's book, so it may not be at the level you wish to wish, but there's the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo. Similar to Harry, Charlie is the main character, the book titles contain his name (at least for the US copies), and he also discovered that "wow, I can use magic?". Rather than full blown magic, I think it's more of a power though. IIRC, the magic spell chants are of Welsh origin rather than the more Latin origin of the Harry Potter ones I think. Give it a try if you think it's up your alley?

In the case of a small possibility you were unaware The Magicians originates from a trilogy of books by Lev Grossman about a guy becoming a real life mage and then coping with how easy his life would be and as such not very meaningful, oh and everyone else as well.

The Unseen University from Terry Pratchett famous Discworld get up to a lot of shenanigans during its tenure and trying to avoid starvation by all means (in)humanly possible.

How is the Wheel of time remotely like a series about someone spending years in a magic School? :blobdizzy:

The closest is Egwene studying with the Aes Sedai an that is pretty minor in the story.

Do you mean Terry Pratchett ?

Seconded on the Kingkiller Chronicles and The black Magician Trilogy, You might also want to read the Traitor spy trilogy, Age of the Five trilogy and the current three books of the Millenniums rule (all also trudi canavan)
Along with these you may be interested in: The Sword of Truth series (First book; Magicians First Rule)
and the Lightbringer series by Brent weeks (first book; the black prism)
