Discussion Qidian Plagiarism (How many can we find?)

That's not always true. The Big 5 use stock images all the time, and imprints lean on stock art even more. There are budget constraints for every project. Commissioned artwork doesn't always mean exclusive either. An AD might ask for a certain background or canvas backdrop to use on a cover but won't make that an exclusive work. So the artist is free to sell it to anyone else that wants it and put it up everywhere else. Or they'll ask for exclusive use for a limited period of time, like a two year period or a five year period. After that, the artist is free to sell it to someone else. It all depends on the project budget and what the AD deems appropriate.

As far as I remember though, the AD on Prince of Thorns was Annette Defax. Message her on LinkedIn or something asking if the Prince of Thorns cover was commissioned and exclusive if you're really that curious. She's super nice.

 

Publishers get the shaft when they make the publication. The authors don't unless they are publishing as well.

 

You know if they are willing to play FK the Copyright laws, All those that sign QI contracts should be FK it. China have been stealing shit from other countries, like technologies. How do you think China can progress to 1st tier country in 30 years or so. Even government official stated that China are stealing their technologies and you know how China response? We should all be peaceful and those technologies are their people hard work in discovering them (a.k.a. Our people work hard to steal them, so why are you making a big deal about this lol.)

 

Check the book cover for tales of Tales of Demons and Gods on qidian's website. Are they are going to get sued by dream works animation?

First they copied WMW without permission to their website and then they stole someone else's book cover as their own.

I found another one. The cover for the dark king is from oliverdenker.com. They deleted the motel sign and cropped out the person on the left. If you take a close look you can even see a piece of the person's pants that was missed in the cropping.

 

The credit for finding this one goes to kurei kurenai in response to patriarch Deathblade's twitter post from 2 months ago. The character is from the devil may cry series by Capcom. I'll leave this here just in case they "forgot" to get permission from Capcom and WW needs more evidence to use in court. I didn't know movie and video game characters counted as stock images.

 

Just in case you guys missed it. Qidian has said they have purchased the art materials on their novels' book covers.

Also, let's acknowledge the fact that similar book covers doesn't mean theft. Also, let's try to be fair/civil and if we do want to point out corruption, let's have evidence to back up our claims. Be the good example

At least one of the artist I reverse-imaged, worked for LUCASARTS, WARNER BROTHERS, DISNEY and ACTIVISION. Are you seriously telling me Qidian paid him for his works? That above poster before you d1cookie, even has a CAPCOM game character shown. That too also paid and licensed for?

Or is it actually Qidian hiring artists out there who took people's works illegally and then they pretended to turn one blind eye and write to the community "paid and licensed for"? For all the bluster about legal issues on WW vs Qidian, are you seriously telling me that they don't recognize the level of BS here?

Sure, I have no doubt there are some stock images are used, but it's so slimy and disgusting to pretend all the images out there are legitimate and not plagarized stuff. There's no dignity or any sense of pride at all. It wasn't until this topic came out before I realized Qidian is really a trashy company through and through. I even used to think that they actually hired decent artists to do some of their covers.

Jesus christ, I can't believe I fell for their bullshit. Come on, at least have the honesty to tell us the truth about your artists.

 

Can't wait for Capcom to sue QI for copyright infringment. JP publishers for games & light novels tend to be very stern when it comes to their IPs, would made my day if Capcom filed for reimbursement as well.
