I'm not sure what anyone expected. It's QIshit after all. Fine if they're a company that wants to earn money, but they're terrible at handling their PR beyond hiring shills. And their treatment of authors is just, well, that.
Not saying that they're the only company out there that does things like this, but we really shouldn't be surprised at this point, what with their track record of being clowns

Well QI is shit everyone knows it, at first everyone was excited when they announced plans for taking works officially as many translators did translations as a hobby.
But what readers failed to see is how they will put paywall after paywall for everything.
They are just demons in disguise like any corporations
So just avoid them entirely and your wallet will help scream in joy.
Since its China I don't think the author could do anything against the QI

This doesn't surprise me one bit. A major part of their contract is that they can do whatever they want with any work from authors contracted to them without any input from the author.

It's shitty that the author have to pay money to read their own work in English.

They didn't even inform the author about the online-selling situation or when they stopped the translation.

I really wish people can grab their dropped work and whenever I see someone grab their novels I never feel bad.

I have to ask the dumb question, but are other translation companies properly paying the authors of the original work? I bought books from Yen Press and J-Novel Club and am starting to wonder if any of my money reached them. I assume so since it looks like they've gone through all the proper legal steps of licensed translations, but just how many other companies are there that do as much as Qidian?

LoL just reminds me of all the older RRL authors that are finding their novels on WN. One even just gave up and joined... it's just sad that they can just do shit like this and shrug their shoulder at any form of accountability.

I would expect some of them do... I mean some of the authors still retain rights to their work so you would figure they get some revenue in return.... I hope.

I wonder if that's real, if it is then they would have somehow said something on their Weibo, right? Did they say anything?

They have full rights to the author's book, even if the author isn't aware that they "gave" full rights to Qidian. It's part of Qidian's contract, courtesy of Tencent .

who know what on qi mind~ imo they not serious or half ass on international market~ did they think international community is china or something?
those two have license, unlike qidian which business on webnovel, those two on ln which mean the copyright for business dealed with company that release on original work and or agency thing~ usually da author have royalty paid by company it release on original country or something like that~ so it problem of company who hold original work~ or whatever contract about copyright thing~
oh also JP company usually really strict with copyright thing~
webnovel on other hand.... who knows~

I think it's the real author. The author asked us to contact him if we have any question. If it's false, he won't be asking us to contact him because it will be immediately revealed.
