Well, at the age of 5 or something, he ran away with the local lord's daughter Ning Xue Mu and she's pretty much the primary love interest, even though she hasn't made any overt moves towards him in season 1. Still, they are clearly childhood friends and that's a bit more of a connection than most stories. That incident, after all, is why his father was beaten so badly and was crippled IIRC.

And the #2 would be his "sister" Xin Xia, which is pretty much standard fare for most of these stories, not related to him at all, but is the dual-burden of being disabled and a sister by marriage only. She's still beautiful enough for some bad guys to want to have a relationship with her, even if she can't walk. ( This part is particularly funny as the local bully is bullying her to be his girlfriend, so he can escort her to school each day... ) The MC has been with both for a long time, more than long enough for them to fall in love with him.

Of the others, one is the slightly infatuated older relative of Ning Xue Mu, who thinks he's cool because he's a lightning mage, and he's popular with the girls in his class because he's a fire mage. His older teacher, Tang Yue, who seems to like him, is a teacher first, and seems more concerned with him as an important student as is one of the few people with an inkling as to his abilities. She rightly perceives that he's at an unfair disadvantage and takes steps to correct that, much as one would expect of a teacher.

In episode 6, he saves quite a few girls from a beast berserker.

By Episode 9, he thinks Zhou Min is asking him on a date, but she actually only asked him to come along and help her because she needs a strong mage and he's the school's strongest student. He actually has to ask he when he realizes they aren't going somewhere "private" for other purposes. Still, he protects her life, her family's safety and acts pretty manly in front of her, even if he really just wants her gone because he needs to get out of there to switch identities.

And he's shown semi-naked enough to assume he's got a fairly manly physique. He's got cool abilities and is the strongest guy in school, and doesn't mistreat the girls. Plus he's always acting manly in front of them

I would think that's quite a lot of reason for the harem to start forming, though officially, by the end of season one, only two girls are on the official list.

the quality of the first season is not so good, but there is a second season coming out this september...but the novel is pretty good.
