This is so depressing, a very good long novel but no romance in sight
Read up to c2971 and no sign of any romance. I don't think there is going to be any for this novel.
The "Uncle" that shows up in the first arc and several others is not a natural human. If we can believe the source that MC eventually learns the truth from, he's the embodiment of the primal force of destruction that naturally formed at the beginning of the multiverse. He's also a boss level guy in the vast organization that manages the system-users like our MC. His primary job in the organization seems to judge and executioner. Anyone who breaks the rules of the organization, he has the authority to execute as he wishes. Only some who have other value to the organization, or who have too much personal power/value to be killed easily, get spared, and instead get penalized by other methods (monetary, or by just taking out chunks of the soul/power). His interest in the MC actually turns out to not entirely be because of the MC, but rather because of her system, because...
Spoiler: Ning Chu's system
The MC's system actually used to be a similar entity as "Uncle". But over the long ages, went mad, and seems to want to just destroy the multiverse and start over (ironic, since "Uncle" is the force of Destruction but wants to preserve the multiverse instead). Since the entity could not be easily destroyed, his soul was taken out of his body/form, and turned into a system that's forced to be tied into humans. Because of what it is, though, its previous lives memory can't be wiped unlike other systems.
"Uncle" personally chooses that system's hosts, because of how dangerous the system is, and it's implied that he chooses weak/dumb souls so that the system would not be able to regain power quickly (of course, it's the system that said this to MC right before it rebelled, so it could be lying to her about that). It's also implied that this system directly killed multiple former hosts before it got to the MC. It's not clear why it spares the MC.
Once the system gained enough power, it abandoned MC and ran. As it left, it took all of her resources - the treasures she saved in her room, her faith points, her merit points, and large portions of her soul power. Later on, MC also discovers that it had been embezzling the soul power rewards that she was supposed to be getting for completing missions all of this time as well, much to her unsurprise.
Spoiler: continued sentence
her system returns right? Or so i read from the spoilers, but damaged, so MC takes it back or gets another one? X_x
What happened afterwards? Why was MC unsurprised of system’s betrayal? How did the MC reacted to being betrayed?
And, is system the twin brother that was mentioned before?
said twin as they born similar. The part that explained it is too confusing with MTL.
But, until the latest chapter MC is using back-up system. She doesn't want to have normal system as she got trauma(?) from the trouble she get from 2333. Her soul now is too weak...and it is dangerous as she is now lord of three cities (who can get merit tax monthly) and some people want to rob the lord position (to rob it, they need to kill her to take the embodiment marks(?)). At the latest chapter she is now the embodiment of water, life and earth (edit: and wood).T become the embodiment some laws is to have perfect understanding of the said law (example NS understand the whole law of water and because no one hold the embodiment of water, she get it)
ohh... NS is a bit pissed off as she was dragged and as her soul power become really weak after 2333 robbed her. Really weak as her soul power, merit, and faith become zero (I think). And why she is not surprised... it is because NS realized that she actually didn't feel the bond between them as usually system is bonded with task-taker (if task taker died, system died). Before she doesn't realize but after she have martial book as carrier of world and reincarnation world that bonded with her, she felt how she felt to 2333 is not like how she know or feel her own world. So, she thought that they (NS and her system) is not actually bonded
Does MC at least have someone she can rely on? This whole thing seems like it's going down the one-man-show path.
How did MC get the life and earth embodiment?
And, what happened to MC’s stats after system stole everything from her? Like, did it decrease or smthing?
I forgot about life. But for earth, she rob from the previous earth lord....
her stat is decrease (after all it is part of soul power). Her soul become like how her soul first... it is transparent from her previous solid soul. So she must gathered soul again to make herself stronger.
And yes, she now was like it is better to rely herself. But she still cooporate with another task taker too (like with holder of time embodiment)
Her system (formerly 2333, original name is Zheng Qing) abandoned her in chapter 2833 and has spent the time since that chapter hiding from "Uncle" (Tai Shu). The master system offered MC a new system to replace 2333, but MC refused because she didn't want to trust her life/possessions to a new partner, and is instead using a robotic backup system with basic operations.
Spoiler: More details
Zheng Qing shows up in the mermaid arc that starts in chapter 2948, hiding out as a male mermaid with unknown ambitions. MC just happened to transmigrate into the littlest mermaid princess for her latest mission. Zheng Qing recognizes her and decides to screw with her mission (she was trying to kill off the prince that the mermaid rescued in the original story, and he saves the prince). However, MC had also recognized him, and had sent up a report to the Organization. So just as he's laughing at her, Tai Shu shows up, forcing him to abandon the merman body and flee the world again.
As of the current chapter, MC has no plans to take Zheng Qing back, and would probably prefer to help stick a knife in his back. Remember, when Zheng Qing abandoned her, he took away the majority of her soul power, causing her to become incredibly weak at a time where she has lots of enemies. He also took away all of her accumulated wealth, including treasures that she was storing for her major projects, over 20 million merit points, and over 6 million faith points.
On top of that, she found he's been embezzling from her rewards all of this time, and hasn't been exactly the most helpful or reliable system all this time. In fact, the backup system she's using has been giving her more options and information in doing her missions than 2333 had been.
Throughout the story, MC has the opinion that 2333 is being less than helpful that he should be, and sometimes purposefully unhelpful. At many points in the narrative, she suspects him of knowing more than he's saying, and skimming off the top of the rewards that have no numeric value attached, because there's no way for her to check how much of the percentage she's actually getting. Also at many points in the narrative, MC has the instinctive impression that her partnership with 2333 is not a permanent one and they'll be at cross paths eventually. This isn't helped by the point where she learns of his original incarnation, and that he isn't tied to her lifeforce, unlike other systems are to their partners (ie. if she dies, 2333 does not necessarily "die"). When she on purpose suggested tying their lifeforce together, 2333 came up with all kinds of excuses for why it's better not to. Which was when MC was pretty sure their partnership is near an end. She just wasn't sure until the time it happened whether 2333 would be killing her on the way out or not (he didn't, but he still took most of her life force with him).
Does she get revenge on the system? Does he ever regret screwing her over?
Novel is still ongoing
@charysa you may not remember this but, is the system that MC got originally is different from the system 2333 that MC got when she became an official task taker?
MC does have some friends, but no...bosom buddies or anything like that. The Organization is like a cultivation world where strength is everything and you always have be careful about being sold out because of greed.
MC has a female friend named Mei Ziqing, who she's done a few group missions with. They're more like general female friends, and have helped each other out with finding resources and lending money out to buy things. Mei Ziqing hasn't shown up for a while though, as she's busy trying to build her own world.
MC also has a male friend in Zhu Li (who she usually just calls "Qipao guy" in her narrative), who's the unofficial leader (not that they have an formal sub-organization) of the elemental embodiments and master of the element of Time. They're more friendly colleagues, since most of the other elemental embodiments do not like MC out of jealousy. Many have tried to get her killed in order to rob her embodiment marks, and several times, Zhu Li would send her a personal IM warning her of the plots against her.
When 2333 robbed MC blind on its way out, MC borrowed merit points from Zhu Li in order to maintain her required expenses. He later offered her a bodyguard job with a huge payout, which helped bring her back out of poverty. He was also the only person who came back for her when that job inevitably went south.
There's no romance between them though. While Zhu Li flirts with every girl he sees (with horrible pick up lines at that), he would back away like the plague whenever any girl actually shows interest back at him. MC suspects he's either still living in the shadow of some great romantic tragedy from his original life, or he's possibly a closeted gay.
Spoiler: How MC got her embodiment marks
Not long after MC reached super-rank mission taker status, she achieved Water embodiment via her own comprehension of elemental water after several visits to the city of water. It was a combination of luck and natural talent, I suppose.
Because the city of water is a major city with a high tax revenue, many other embodiments were incredibly jealous that this newbie got the position of city lord with becoming embodiment, and some tried to kill her so that they seize the embodiment marking (which will make them the water embodiment). MC of course resists being killed.
Later, during the war between the Organization and some rival multiverse/bug people, many embodiment holders were killed on the battlefield, and MC was able to capture the embodiment marking of Wood from the casualties. She was then able to combine the two elements to create healing rain (Wood and Water both have healing oriented aspects), and became a battlefield healer to help boost the armies.
This probably helped her have a greater understanding of healing, so that later, when she desperate needed to achieve some kind of Physics(?) Embodiment (which is different from the normal Elemental Embodiment), she was able to break through and suddenly comprehend the Life Embodiment. She needed to know at least one Physics embodiment in order to be able to handle the broken shards of destroyed worlds, and at the time she desperately needed fragments of the world walls in order to help fix the Peerless Martial Art world that she was building but nearly sacrificed to save her life during the war mentioned earlier.
Of course, having these embodiments just made her a juicier target for the jealousy of others. Especially when due to the worlds she was building, the one time when she'd forgotten to reinforce the barriers of the city of Water only got her a dock in pay instead of immediate execution that most other city lords get when they fail their jobs. Many other embodiment holders planned to protest the system ruling and ask for her to be executed for fairness sake. Qipao guy gave her a heads up about this since the group that were doing this had been meeting up in his city (they thought he agreed with them). So MC showed up and as a show of force, killed the ringleader of the group, the Earth elemental embodiment, and took his mark.
Tai shu showed up afterwards, because it's against the rules to fight in a city. He didn't execute her because of the worlds she'd already created, and only shot off most of her lifeforce as punishment, plus 100 (additional, as she'd already owed 100 years due to a previous punishment) years of all three of her cities tax revenue. Of the other embodiments that where acting against her, some of executed, and others were punished by forfeiting 100 years of their city's tax revenue to the Organization.
I guess. I honestly don't remember much about the start of the novel, because the first few chapters were so boring that I couldn't make it through them. I eventually started reading from the second arc on.
Looked at the meeting between ZQ and Uncle in mermaid world....
Hahaha.... ZQ. I can't believe of how low his moral is just so that he can escape from uncle. And the MC got the front seat for the scene. And when MC saw uncle again, she was a bit distracted...
First, he was like really friendly. Greet uncle and went to hug him like brothers who is very long time didn't meet. And when ZQ near uncle to hug him, he grab uncle's head and went straight to kiss him...cough before ran away. Ning Shu (still in mermaid body) who watching their interaction (Uncle revealed his disgusted face) go ducking into sea hoping she will not get burnt from uncle's anger.
The next time she saw uncle, she was watching uncle cautiously (still thinking the scene in the mermaid world)
Did it touch?
I think it is... as the MTL said he(ZQ) kissed him(uncle) directly...and the disgusted face of uncle. Uncle too goes into bad mood after NS later ask if he already catch ZQ (I think he know that MC watch that moment).
It makes me wonder with how it is said that ZQ killed his previous task-taker, if he have a bit fondness to MC as MC didn't die (even if ZQ left her really weak). It is a bit better than the so called system (not the one that bonded with task taker) of some system arc that punished their host really hard when the host failed to do the task.
Lol maybe ZQ is our MC's ML
