Sadly...they got killed. When Rapunzel was tested for being the Lord’s daughter, the results were not favorable. So she was burned as a witch...and mother Gothel died alongside her when she jumped into the fire after knowing what had occurred. Yielle felt really guilty to the point she hallucinated them cursing her, but she got over it quickly with the help of Hansel. At least that’s what it was stated, we never know if the author is just playing tricks on us, and they are still alive. But that’s what the merchant Yielle encountered in the supposed place Rapunzel’s biological parents are said. And it was her ‘father’ who ordered her to be burned at the stake with divine fire (or was it holy?) which witches are vulnerable to, it was why Gothel couldn’t save her. After all, the fire affected her powers, and rendered them practically useless.
