Hey there, I was wondering if people were generally aware that there's a spate of rating bombing that happens on NU? I can provide two specific examples, but judging by rating curvature across the website I'm pretty sure it happens a lot. This novel (that admittedly, I do work on, but that's what alerted me to the issue) went from 4.1 to 3.4 in rating in a single day due to 40 1/5 reviews suddenly coming through. I don't really care about negative scores, but that's obviously not organic voting. Another example (though I don't have specific numbers) is when Last Boss was similarly review bombed some months ago from around the 4.4/4.5 mark. I've also talked to people who say that certain tags get review bombed often (especially controversial ones), though I can't really talk about that since it may well be organic voting. Just to be clear, I'm not asking for these series to have their scores changed, I just wanted to make it known what's happening. I think a reason why this isn't really talked about is that many series on NU have really polarized ratings, split predominantly between 1/5 and 5/5 votes, so it's difficult to spot review bombing and evidently, the site doesn't have a system in place to prevent it.
wait up, ill brief read to see why. Its seems people just don't like the story which to be fair, is not cool if you are going to rate it. its like someone who hates horror and likes comedy reading a dark humor horror adventure story and saying there is too much horror and gore in story when tagged as humor. your going to get a lot of this. nothing you can do about it.
anything on QI(their site, NOT by others)is a straight 1 for me....shounen ai, ntr is a straight 1 for me..... cute girls doing cute things is okay for me.....but no way in hell i accept swordplay....the only manly woman i accept is the Chrystabel species from Arifureta....
It doesn't really matter if there's a reason 'why', inorganic voting isn't justifiable at all. One person shouldn't be able to just completely tamper with a rating by making a bunch of sockpuppet accounts. At the very least, the administrators should care since it can damage the reputation of the site.
Note that when you rate, it wouldn't be immediately added. It would be hold for half a day for whatever process to determine whether it's legit or not if I remember correctly.
I doubt it'd particularly damage the site's reputation that much, actually, but I agree with the sentiment. Abuse of the rating system is intolerable. This has previously been reported and will be looked into, but there's a lot going on and it may take awhile. Edit: The ratings were fraudulent and have been removed. Other novels were affected.
Sorry about that. It's confirmed that the ratings were tempered with but those accounts have been banned along with their ratings removed.
When you say organic voting, I think of organic food. The connotations for the word organic just make it sound really off.
Why don't just don't read the novels with tags that doesn't interest you then? The way you described the rating system seems off.
Don't be bothered by shit like that, the word organic was traditionally used in this way, it was just muddled in the last several decades by people advertising to make their things "seem" better/healthier than "artificial" things.
Oh, that clears things up. Cheers for your hard work. Just out of curiosity, how many novels did actually have their ratings messed with?
Yup! It's pretty much the same for all his accounts but I grabbed this from one of his account: https://jsbin.com/foxutejawa/edit?html,output Yeah but it's fine. I can undo all ratings by a user with one click now.
Yay, something to cheer about I didn't even notice that the series I *should be keeping note of got bombed until I saw this thread >.< Glad it was resolved
So will invisible dragon finally get the 10/5 rating it truly deserves? *looks* Ha?! It went down to 4.1! Conspiracy I say!
