It has been a while since I read a story with a tragedy tag. But one bright Sunday afternoon, I decided to reread One Lifetime... I'm regretting that decision as I, for the second time, crush my heart and soul in sadness deeper than the ocean that even the bright summer sun can't wash away these faux pain...I think I won't do tragedies again for few month again. I tortured myself enough.

To my 1 hour ago self, I hate you.

Lmao, tragedy to is almost like torture porn, but a really good one you’know. But oftentimes what I find is that these so called tragedy tagged series just become torture, torture, torture with no suspense. I usually end up hating everything about the series, to characters, plot everything, cause of the tragedy tag only exist to put the mc and other characters through torture for the sake of the plot than there comes a point where it becomes disgusting.

The disbelief is thrown out of the window, “oh mc is still in love with abusive cheating ex? Than let’s make mc go beck to that same stalking abusive ex! Oh mc was so naive they went back to abusive ex? Well abusive ex got mad at mc for drinking so let’s have mc be raped by abusive ex! Mc will cry, will than go back to abusive ex, rinse and repeat, it’s like a never ending cycle” sigh god, I swear I have ptsd from all these torture series.

So true. I know that I'll never be like those characters when it comes to relationships and their actions could be so unrealistic sometimes, but some I still end up feeling their pain. Mah poor heart. I dunno why I even read one... it's like a relapse into a certain addiction lmao

As much as possible I avoid stories that has tragedy tags. Unless it's recommended by someone I trust.

One of the reason why I like tragedy stories is because my lack of sadness in live, it's very rare for me to to cry. I crave for deep sadness, I want to cry like cry baby with tears flowing on my face, minutes, hours, or half day. In the most tragedy stories I empathize with characters tragic fate. Another reason to read that kind f stories is because it make more aware that there's many people in somewhere who experience such tragic live and compared to them my live still nice and decent enough. Also most tragedy stories I had read have good story telling.
I read it for what exactly it will deliver, sadness and tragic.

    Why avoid?
I guess humans crave deep emotions. Normal life is kinda monotonous.

When Aristotle said good tragedies are supposed to be cathartic, I think he meant you cry so much there are no tears left, achieving (in a roundabout way) purgation of said emotion. :hmm:

A good tragedy is a tragedy that makes you hold on to the things you have even closer. It is a potential way to catharsis and a way to reorient your current perspective on your own life.

Tragedy for the sake of tragedy is poorly written. There is no meaning in why the protagonist faces the tragedies, nor any takeaway to the protagonist facing the tragedies.

I've read tragedy novels/manga before. I finished Oyasumi Punpun, and I've read to the latest update in To You, The Immortal (Though I stopped reading because it's too long to get updates). But that was before when I'm still mentally stable and I don't go on depressive episodes. Now I hate tragedy bc my life is already full of it lmao.

I suggest not to read tragedy novels frequently, maybe every 3 or 4 months. I had read 3 tragedy novels in span 3 days, I didn't get the same sadness I gain from second or third novel, while the first novel give me full blown sadness that make my eyes red.

I disagree. I believe that some stories are written to be simply stories. You don't need to look for meaning in everything.
Real life tragedies have a way different feels than story tragedies though. But yah, too much sad stuff ain't good for you

It's a bit hard to look for good stuff after reading almost all the current ones. At the very least, I only touch completed ones. I would lose immersion if I'm left suspended in pain for too long.

Life is suffering. It matters not if there's an extra helping of it
