Oh yeah she does. She can use animals and plants to collect information. So, she knows what her enemies are planning. She can also guide animals to attack people and she uses her pet cobra, "Vaishali", to expose her stepmother's affair with her own brother. She can also heal people from any point before death to good health with her powers.

 

Woah. Her stepmother and brother?! I'm assuming its her half brother from one of her dad's concubines and not from the step mother herself. Also, is there any drawbacks when she uses her powers? Does her goddess grandma show up at all? I know it was mentioned that her mother sealed her powers so the goddess wouldn't notice.

 

It's the step mother's half brother. Stepmother's birth mother is a concubine who was basically a prostitute brought into the house by her infatuated dad from a brothel. Stepmother had recently fallen out of favour with MC's father and she wanted to get pregnant. Stepmother had had an ongoing relationship with her half brother while she was in the maiden home and had a hard time getting pregnant because of overuse of contraceptive soup from a young age. When her mother found out about it, she made the half brother sleep with her too. So basically, both mother and daughter are sleeping with the same man.

Once stepmother falls out of favour, she decides to sleep with the half brother again to try and get pregnant. Stepmother takes MC back to her maiden home for the birthday of stepmother's maiden family's main wife. The MC has her snake follow her when stepmother slips away and catches them in the act. To make it public, she has the snake bite both of them high up on their thigh. Both of them run out with disordered clothes for treatment and are humiliated in public. Later, the MC's dad hears about it and starts getting suspicious.

Regarding her powers, MC initially can't use them for fear of being detected. If she's detected to have spiritual powers while too weak, others can take advantage of her. In fact, a shaman who works for the crown prince detects her powers and this spurs the crown prince to try to get her over to his side. There's also the fear that her grandmother might come take her away if her power were to be detected. This is partially false, because her grandmother took MC's mom away because she was unhappy and would have let her stay if she were happy.

 

Ah. Dude, that's one messed up family. Also, when you say the MC's mom was taken away, so she's not dead? I thought that it was mentioned she died before the stepmom got married in.

 

The grandfather circulated the news that MC's mom died in battle because MC's mom asked him to do it. However, MC's mom was actually taken away by the goddess. MC's dad had multiple concubines before MC's mom left and he married the stepmother shortly after. Actually, he wanted to marry her before the mourning period for MC's mom had ended but the MC's grandfather beat him up to within an inch of his life for even having the thought. So he ended up marrying her after 3 years and he ended up marrying her as a concubine rather than as a main wife.

 

Makes sense. What a despicable guy, ugh. So what about the uncle's fiancee/wife? Is she still alive? Is she likable?

 

Yeah, the MC's father is a slimy sub-human thing for most of the book. The uncle's fiancee got married to him as his wife and they had 2 children. The aunt always treated MC well because she was grateful to the MC's mother for stepping back and not insisting on marrying the uncle. If MC's mom had pushed for it, the emperor and the grandfather would have married her to the uncle but she chose to give up on him instead. The aunt is conscious of the debt she owed the MC's mom and treats her like her own daughter to try to make up for it.

On a tangent here, the MC's mom was an idiot. If she'd just put her foot down and not been so self righteous, a lot of hardship could have been avoided. The uncle was in love with MC's mom till the end and vice versa. He didn't mistreat his wife or shortchange her for it but he always maintained the feelings. MC's father was always insecure and started marrying concubines because the woman he was married to was always thinking of his brother and was cold as an iceberg to him. The whole fiasco could have been averted if she'd just not been so extra noble and insisted on marrying the uncle. Even the aunt would have been better off. Maybe she would have married someone who actually loved her instead. MC's mom irritates me.

 

Just read in mtl where MC gets her dad's trust and lets him listen in on the stepmother's affair with her brother where stepmom confesses her brother that gave MC's dad a drink to make him sterile and the child she was pregnant with was for her brother... things go downhill from there for them.

 

She actually later confessed that she had always been jealous of the MC's mom and it was revealed that ever year on the anniversary of the mom's "death" the aunt and uncle argue and the uncle drinks alcohol.
I must add though that she loved the MC and treated her like a daughter, and even felt guilty toward her.

 

How did the ML win the MC heart?

 

How did she deal with her friend? I mean what is her fate in the end?
