So... I don't have any GPU right now. I only have i7-10610U CPU so it's pretty low spec for gaming (since this is after all, a business laptop). I wonder if there are games you can recommend me to play here (outside of solitaire, windows card games, chess, or zuma and its ilk)? Also, I only have 16GB RAM (2 x 8 at 2666MHz). My laptop spec.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. It can run on almost anything, and is still a phenomenal game.

    Terraria is always awesome.
I'm pretty sure u can run Minecraft too, so long as u don't use shaders.
There's also this indie game called RotMG - Realm of the Mad God, that I really enjoy playing. Bit of a learning curve thou, especially since it's permadeath. If you aren't good at the game, you are gonna ragequit a lot.

There are honestly a plethora of games you can play. I recommend checking out GOG. They used to be known as "Good Old Games".

Nah but seriously I can play most games fine with my i5-8th gen + 8 gb RAM + onboard graphics. For example, I can consistently run nier automata from 40-50 fps and it is perfectly playable. (40 fps only hits in the worst case)

Here are few games that run like butter though,
    • Rimworld
    • Terraria + tmodloader
    • Stardew Valley
    • tf2
    • Literally every single slightly older game
    • All emulators (Citra, Desmume, vba-m, PPSSPP etc) PCSX2 kinda depends on the game tbh but even then you can usually get a decent res going before it sucks.
      • Pokemon, Pokemon Romhacks, Castlevania, Persona, SMT, Devil Survivor, Monster Hunter (this one is kinda hard to play without a controller though)

not probably everyone is into 800x600 low detail stuff today ;)

at least i doubt you talk about a full hd resolution also hard to believe its anything higher than min/low details

savest way to go would be to look for old games as for them you are already very high spec.ed

    some old simcity
    death rally
    tyrian 2k
the witcher 1/2 perpahs even part 3 with compromises
    starcraft
dungeon keeper 1+ 2 / the indirect child dungeons
most "theme" games park, hospital etc (hospital got a rather nice successor with 2 point hospital)
    age of empires 2
master of orion 2 free wargaming rework might work too
    borderlands might work too
i guess you could try most round based strategy too if your willing to wait for the turn calculations on late game civ 6 got there 1min + for me

thought older games and dos box emulations got the other advantage that they might not take up 100gb + from your 512gb/1tb storagespace

Most pre-2010 games should work !
    • Age of Empires 1 & 2
    • Alpha centari
    • Diablo 1 & 2
    • Starcraft
    • Starcraft: brood wars
    • Warcraft
    • Empire Earth 1 & 2
You could try these games to see if they lag or not on your PC...
    • Granado Espada / Sword of the new world
    • Ace Online / Air Rivals
    • Aion
    • Prius Online
...due to unavailablity from official sources, you may have to torrent these games, and may have to use private game servers to play.

Not really, I meant 1920 x 1080 res. No 4k gaming or anything but that is a good enough res for any game as far as I care. Tbf I am okay with 1280 x 720 res too but eh.

As for details in case of nier, it was at either low or mid level details, running at high had a few jarring fps drops once in a while so it kinda sucked.

I think the more major problem with nier for me was that it seems to be designed with controllers as primary input so kb+m io in nier is kinda dogshit without mods. Once yo get FAR and NAIOM though, kb+m is perfectly fine.

im not into poor ports thats why i skipped that game

saw a few vids of it put it in the ok-ish graphics section nothing extraordinary to write home about gameplay should ahve been the strong point of that game
personally i prefer a good look at lower frames over some high framerates while textures look like they belong into a 20 year old game

I think with current PC onboard graphics, you can play most games before 2010 without any problem barring few compability issues.

Some games before 2015 can be played with decent performance as well if you tweaked the graphic setting a bit.

Anything AAA games after 2015 will probably will have big impact on performance. So indie games is your only choice.

I personally recommend some strategy games from the 2000s like Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, Generals, and Tiberium War or maybe something like W40K: Dawn of War or Company of Heroes.

They don't make strategy games like them anymore these days... At least nothing noteworthy.
