My question below may be spoilers for some readers just FYI. The question I have is during the battle in the southeast/southwest what was the purpose of the caltrops that the MC has laid out over the mountains? They mentioned it once when the enemy was going to do a night raid but after that it seemed like it never served an actual purpose? Am I missing something?
Strategic move to narrow the playing the field...limited soldiers on mc side so they force the enemy to fight where they want them to...I think it gets brought up again during the war...cant remember tbh
Caltrops were used to prevent the enemies from climbing up that side of the mountain without using walls. The caltrops area was later used as a path for the cavalry to charge down to ambush the enemy (after they laid down a path on top of the caltrops). So it wasn't that significant but still had a use.
