Mtl so details might be off. I am calling Leonard the ml now as I am still reading the novel and don't really know who she is going to end up with. But I do hope it isn't Him:blobsweat:
So ml loved Miranda from his academy days and promised to marry her. His father asked him to marry Judy to build up connections with the nobility. Judy is an aristocrat but is poor so ml's father pushed her to marry ml. Ml comes clean to fl that he won't love her and he apologises. Fl says she understands so ml thinks that she probably has a lover too( She does agree to this). He wonders if she is poor. But then douchebag has the audacity to think that fl is a shallow woman who married for money. Like dude hasn't seen a mirror:blobconfused:
He then says she will have to sleep in a different room as the couple's room belongs to Miranda.the cleaning of the house is also left to Judy because ml doesn't want a housekeeper to find out about their arragement. Fl then tells him that her family believes in working hard so she wants to help him in his business and he agrees.
He does bow and apologise to her again before leaving

Fl joins the business. The employees are surprised to see someone of her standing bowing down to them and asking them to teach her what they do. She does the paperwork as well as cleans the entire place. Ml's father Zachary is impressed at how good at her job she is as he knew she hasn't received higher education. The business grows and fl becomes popular. She even makes some accessories for a Countess. Ml is jealous but since his father is now focused on fl he gets time to concentrate on his own share of the work and his sales grow too. His father tells him that marrying Judy was a great decision.

Ml's mother Helen also likes Judy and wants grandkids. Ml tells her to wait a year.

Miranda returns from the academy and ml hugs her. He asks fl to work for him even after the divorce. Fl says that is he really asking her to stay and watch him and his beloved wife. He gives her the compensation money with the condition that she won't reveal the truth about their marriage.

Zachary is completely against the ml's marriage with Miranda but gives in due to his mother's pleas. They have a grand wedding to remove Judy's shadow and to announce Miranda's arrival

After marriage Miranda works in the academy but Zachary doesn't like it as he thinks a woman should protect her home. Ml is supportive and think that Miranda will only help in raising his reputation in the society.

It is difficult for noble woman to remarry or to have a job unlike commoners. But Leonard still thinks he is a bigger victim than Judy as his life was 'hell' ayear after divorce. He thinks he was able to over come the hardship and able to persuade Judy to agree to the divorce( like dude it wasnt that hard, she agreed without you asking twice.....).He wants to live a happy life now:blobwoah:

    Two years timeskip
Abel ( someone who works in ml's store), informs Zachary that many of their craftsmen have left to join a new store called W&J because of less working hours and better perks. Zachary orders Abel to double the salary given to the craftsmen in their store
as well as give them more holidays and so they are able to get back their craftsmen. However because of reduced working hours they are not able to meet the demand. The sales drop. The Countess also cuts her ties with the store along with other senior aristocrats.

Zachary is pissed off at W&J for stealing his customers. He ropes in Helen and Miranda to help just like Judy used to. Miranda refuses and so he insults her. Miranda yells at the Ml bcause of this, who tries to calm everyone down...
Miranda accuses him of not fulfilling his promise. He had told her that she wouldn't have to work at the store. She was also sick of being continously compared to Judy. She leaves for her parent's house.Ml goes after her but is kicked out by his in laws:blobpopcorn_cool:

In a party for the western merchants Leonard meets Judy. He approaches her and feels regretful. But then he starts to think that it's not too late to get her back. If she would come back his parents and employees would be relieved and Miranda won't have to work in the store anymore. He remembered her calling him her ' beloved husband'. So he thinks that she would be happy to be his mistress:blob_thor:
Miranda would be angry but this was the only way out. He is proud of his business skills and thinks that he can easily persuade Judy.

The greedy pig doesn't know what to say to Fl because they had never talked about anything other than work. Just then a man calls Judy and embraces her in front of Leonard. Judy tells a confused Leonard that he was Walter, her husband. She tells him they didn't have a ceremony as this was her second marriage. Leonard thinks that Walter was the person Judy was in love with before their marriage and feels betrayed:blobpopcorn_two:.
They tell him that they own W&J. Judy says she used the knowledge she had earned while working in his store. She calls the time she spent with him hellish which surprised Leo as he thought she had been happy. She reveals that Zachary had cornered her to marry him while she was engaged to Walter (Leo didn't know this). But she had decided to make this marriage work only to be humiliated by Leonard during their first night. She had gone back to her room to pen a letter Walter asking him to wait a year for her.
Whenever she said 'beloved husband ' she had been referring to Walter

The first 3 chapters of the manga show a bit of a different story than the novel spoilers. I was so annoyed by this "husband" character that I even decided to make a thread haha. I really hope he's not ML.
"Husband's" rich merchant family without a title were looking for a noble family for an arranged marriage to get access to rich aristocrats with the help of that union. Their products (jewelry) were pretty popular among poor aristocrats and rich commoners, but they wanted more. It shows that even though they had quite good profits they still worked their employees to the bone and didn't pay them fairly, but monopoly and other stuff, so poor people didn't have an option to quit.

Instead of finding someone who wants this arranged marriage and family union, they started to press MC's family. MC's family only small land and title, 2 servants and a few people in their fief whom they cared about, but they didn't have any problems so far and were living a normal life.

"Husband's" family proposed to have a union, but MC's father disagrees. This is when "husband's" family schemed and made troubles for their fief.

MC actually had a lover and was looking forward to marrying him. Because of some scheme he was fired without a notice and him staying tied to MC could have brought problems to her family, so he asked her to forget him and their previous marriage talks.

At the end MC's father agrees to the marriage. But after this agreement MC has a talk with the "husband" and this scumbag says that it will be a 1 year contract marriage, they will divorce and he will give MC a lot of money. During the marriage they should live in different places, they can never be alone in the same room and of course his only wife will be his academy GF whom he promised marriage.

So after the his family has ruined MC's family's life, now the scum husband says that in a year MC will be a divorcee which is heavily frown upon in their society, leading to her to never having her own business (because everything a divorcee does is supposed to be considered vulgar), leading to her never having a chance to marry properly, and moreover she will have to be disregarded and not respected during their 1 year of marriage.

OK so Walter is the Ml, but I'm too lazy to edit. So if I'm using 'ml' I am referring to Leo in the earlier spoilers.
So Judy was in love with Walter, who used to be a clerk. Her parents allowed her to become a commoner and to get married to him as he was a sincere and a capable person. Enter Zachary, who offers Judy a large sum to get married to Leo, but Judy's father declines the offer.

First Zachary has Walter fired from his job. No other merchant hires him. Then Zachary stops the lumberjacks from supplying firewood. It's winter but Judy's family manages by collecting firewood. Judy is suspicious that this is all because of Zachary but their is no proof. After this he also stops the stores from selling meat and vegetables to Judy's family. Their maid isn't able to buy food from the other town too. The people in their territory aren't able to sell their goods on the market so they aren't able to pay taxes. So Judy's family isn't able to to deposit the taxes infront of their lord too.

So to save everyone Judy finally agree to get marry even though her family tries to stop her. She breaks off her engagement to Walter, asking him to forget about her and to find someone better. He swears that he will love her for the rest of his life. They cry and share their first kiss.

Judy is angered by Leonard during their first night. She wonders if Leonard is really a victim. She thinks that he should have resisted more. Since Miranda was abroad studying, Zachary wouldn't have been able to harm her. But Leonard married her just to get the benefits of being connected to nobility. He looked apologetic but she knew Leonard hated her so he was trying to trample on her self Esteem. She decides to work in Leo's store to build connections of her own in order to help Walter. She forms a future plan for herself but she is worried that Walter won't take her back.
She goes to her room and kisses Walter's engagement ring and writes a letter to her friend Katy, Telling her about everything that had happened. She also enclosed a letter to Walter along with it. She didn't want Zachary to find out that she was communicating with him. She starts to wear the ring around her neck

The next day, Zachary is pleased to hear her wanting to work for them. Helen likes the news too saying that it's good for Judy to know that she is now a commoner. She tells Judy that she won't be recognized as a true bride until she has kids. Hearing this Leo glares at Judy, signaling her to not say anything extra

I don't complete understand this part but it seems like Helen was trying to show off how close she was to Leonard in front of Judy who obviously didn't care. Zachary says that she is different from other girls as all of Leonard's past lovers would have found that sight unpleasant. He tells her that they had Leonard quite late into their marriage so Helen spoilt him a lot.

A letter arrives from Katy (but actually Walter). He tells her that his feelings for her will never changed. After receiving her letter Katy' husband had hired Walter in his inn

Judy learns about the workers' problem. About how little they are paid and how they suffer under Zachary's policies. They tell her that they are glad Leo married her in stead of Miranda who was a very proud person

Helen insults Judy, saying that she isn't qualified to be a wife because she doesn't do anything at home. Judy thinks that Helen herself does nothing other than arrange flowers as they have many servants. But she doesn't want to argue so she just apologises. Helen however continues saying that she used to work both in the the store and at home. But the employees had already told Judy that Zachary loved Helen and so would only have her work during the busy season. Helen would never do hard labour and would only work as a salesperson. She was very rude too.
Helen says that Judy should be ashamed of herself . She thinks that Judy is selfishly depriving Leo of a kid and it would be natural for him to turn to another woman.she thinks that Judy should have atleast two boys .
Helen says that Leo is good-looking, rich and charming and many women love him. She says that Miranda was better than Judy.

So Zachary had made a deal with Judy that he won't reduce Abbey's ( a worker) salary if she is able to make a product that appeals to the Countess. Both Leonard and Zachary look down on her and think she won't be successful. But the Countess rejects Zachary's ideas and likes Judy's idea..

One day after Helen does her usual routine of yelling at Judy, Zachary tells Judy that Helen is behaving this way because of her own difficulty in getting a child. He says that it's okay if she isn't pregnant with Leonard's child and puts a move on her. The bastard tries to touch her hand and she immediately withdraws. He says that he is just trying to help her and laughs as she leaves. She rushes to the bathroom and keeps scrubbing her hand until it's is swollen and red. She vomits and cries, calling for Walter. After this incident she is very scared and completely drowns herself in work. She does a lot of overtime and spends a lot of time at the Countess' in order to avoid her so called family

Leonard accuses Judy of having an affair but she retorts that she had no time to do so. She worked from morning to night and was harassed by her mil at home. Leonard is surprised as he thought they used to be close. His mother was always smiling and was never fussy. But he remembers that even Miranda had told him that Helen hated her.
Judy tells him that she and Walter only exchanged letters. She tells him to not accuse her when he had pushed her to this position and was himself carrying out an affair.

Leonard then says that she stole their craftsmen and customers, but she answers that she never used his father's dirty methods. She just created a better work environment . She tells him that he was only focused on sales and never bothered to look into the workshop.
Leonard asks her what he should do next and she tells him to repent and that she will support him from the shadows.Leonard leaves.

Walter asks if she was kind to Leo because he was her ex husband but Judy tells him that wasn't the case and that people like Leonard can't change no matter what she says. She asks if he is jealous and he doesn't hesitate before agreeing.

Judi tells him that he is the only one for her. She doesn't want to dirty her hands by directly going for revenge. She wants Leonard and Zachary to watch her as her business grows and for them to keep feeling frustrated and defeated.

    10 years later

With the help of the Countess , W&J are now making products for royalty. Zachary's business has shut down and the family has disappeared. Leonard is now working as a cargo carrier. Once while loading boxes into a ship he notices the word W&J on them and thinks about Judy. He thinks his marriage to her was the happiest time of his life and wonders why did he leave her for Miranda.

The first half of the story( spoilers1-4 ) are from Leonard's pov. So he doesn't notice what's going on with Helen and Judy and it appears like they have a good relationship.

OMG! This is so satisfying :blobsmilehappyeyes: I think this MC is now one of my favourite ::bloblove::

I’ve managed to read the novel (it’s quite short and mtl is easy to understand) and it is a really nice read, all you need to lift the mood a bit and relax after a busy working day.

Adding to what has been spoiled above,
MC has actually involved her ex-fiancé (actual ML) into business before her divorce, because the stupid father-in-law didn’t want to help her with providing craftsmen even though MC has secured the order from the Countess. MC had to rely on her ex-fiancé’s experience to negotiate craftsmen in another area, so that the company doesn’t lose a profitable client.

The father-in-law was annoyed that she has managed to satisfy the Countess, so he was apparently ready to lose money just to have a small petty revenge on MC. Thanks to that MC and ML have gained a huge amount of experience in a short time and gained connections. They have also realized what exactly needs to be changed in the way merchant guilt and craftsmen work to make all parties satisfied.

It also looks like at the end the “husband” has run away from his parents because it was easier to take care only of himself, so when the family business went bankrupt and they have sold everything he had to go do heavy labor to feed the family, his parents were hysterical and this is when he has just left them.

I have enjoyed so much MC’s inner monologues whenever she was trying not to snap at the family of a$$holes. She’s been inwardly calling them arrogant idiots all along and mocking the “husband” for thinking that MC’s usual words “for my beloved husband” were about him.

The manhwa’s plot went a bit differently after the first few chapters and imo the story has been ruined.

There is an additional character and thus many new plot twists that weren’t in the novel and are totally illogical. Leads, especially MC, behave out of characters and completely against any logic and social norms.

Even though the art was pretty, the constant second-hand embarrassment I felt while reading the manhwa made me drop it. So it’s just a heads up to the prospective readers to skip the manhwa and just enjoy the novel.

I liked this story because it seems like the novels where the male lead is trashy but the fl still end up with him,but here is like she actually grew a spine and went for the 2ml that is nice.
    Definitely will read this one.

@Rika77 and @its0k already made detailed spoilers about the novel plot, but I want to make a rant about some characters because I thought it was a very interesting novel.
I thought it was amazing how the author used dual pov.
In Leonard pov,his mother and Judy got along well and he was regretful that his now wife,Miranda, wasn't in good terms with her.
But the thing is,is not that Judy was close to his mother,is just that unlike Miranda, she never complained about her to Leonard or talked back to Helen(the mother).
There was at least two scenes in the novel from Judy pov where Helen used very abusive language toward Judy and Leonard was present, but he never defended her.
The first time he said to her not to care about(because he didn't wanted her to start having ideas of children) and the second he Saud nothing, just left while looking annoyed.
He is the type of man that thinks it's ok for his woman to endure whatever his family throws at her, doesn't matter if it's Judy or Miranda.
There were mentions in the novel too about his taste in woman from his parents or Judy coworkers, how he was always with a woman of outstanding beauty.
The Countess who Judy sold the necklace for told her how she never liked Leonard and thought that if he married,it would be with an incredible beauty because he us the type of man who likes to show off.
Judy's coworkers also told her how Leonard last lover(miranda) was in the store once and was very rude and with bad temper(so his mom is his type?:blobpopcorn_cool:) Even though Miranda was smart and teached at the academy, she didn't understand anything of business and was always fighting with her in laws. She got tired of it and left for her parents house and when Leonard tried to bring her back, her father scolded and sent him away.
When Judy started having sucess at work after selling the Countess necklace,in Judy pov we saw how he was jealous of her and told her she only had sucess because she was his wife. Then when she said beloved husband,he again thought it was him and had a crooked smile saying he couldn't accept her feelings, but when she said she knows and will leave quietly lately, suddenly his voice was soft and he asked her to work for him after the divorce(since she is so useful.)
After he met her again after the divorce,in his pov he wanted to make Judy his mistress so she would work for him again and his parents would be happy and Miranda too because Judy would do her work.
In his mind, she would be happy for finally being accepted by him,so yeah,he is an narcissistic and delusional, just like many man around here and many trashy male leads or annoying ex in novels, that's why it was so satisfied for me seeing his downfall and how the author didn't romanticize him.
I was so glad she is not a doormat.I fell like she did everything a real person would do in her place.
She agreed to marriage with Leonard to protect the people she loved and was willing to live with him without any grudges even though she loves someone else.
But then she learns about the divorce and her line of thinking was amazing. She knew that they did her wrong!!she knew he would make her even worse later because her family would be shamed for having a daughter that divorced her commoner husband!!
And she knew exactly what to do to make this life better. She worked hard to learn about the business, she had very quick thinking.
The way she figures her husband narcissistic personality so fast and plays him was so good too!!
She took all his family abuse quiet but in no way she was a doormat, she was a girl with a plan and willing to lower her head to get her deserved reward later.
I wanted to cry with her when her father in law made a move on her and how she was always hiding from him and feeling his gaze on her.
the author made this part very well written and every women who experienced something similar would agree.
When she reunited with Walter, her beloved husband, and told him about all she went through he wanted revenge on the camps family, but Judy had other plans.
She didn't want to live in the past anymore, she didn't wanted to deal with them. Its not that she was afraid, its because she couldn't care less and she also knew that she could have revenge without dirtying her hands.
She knew her business would destroy the camps and she knew everytimw they thought of her, they would fell despair and regret and she was right.
She was a character with so much dignity and was a lady till the end.I absolutely love her!!::bloblove::::bloblove:::blobkiss::meowflower::meowpuffytears::blobwob:

I was so surprised at his thinking here. How thick headed one has to be to think like that. Not an ounce of shame while thinking to degrade a fine young lady to such a position plus also thinking side by side how SHE would be responsible for working hard for his family and even making his lover turned wife happy again.
Like Judy doesn't have a life of her own which she wants to live in her own way as she wishes.
