    A lot of anime I watched back then were typical Shonen with no focused plot and a lot of friendship is magic. So yes, that was cringe. There are a lot of anime out there that are just terrible, and up until I left anime, it was all pretty cliché harem isekai. But there are good anime's out there, even though it's a small percentage. That's just how everything is.
