I like roses though. Or any flower really. You can dry them, press them-- there's a ton of different things you can do to preserve flowers. But a potato could be a funny gift if it's an inside joke or something between you and your partner.
deep ingrained custom that evolve into culture~ basically that~ the justification of certain item, gesture or such thing act as symbolism~ why it become this or that may lost in time~ society full of such stuff, so meh~ flowers is classic gifts on romantic style cuz it beauty appearance, nice smell~ but it can also use on sad occasion such as give it to deceased person~ there perhaps tradition with myth or legend to explain why such thing happen, now it so deep ingrained so perhaps lost in time~ there interesting stuff, a social one if I may say~ on this cat country the gesture giving rose for lover start on city way back then, but gesture give flower to love one is way older~ pre wedding photo also similar, Valentine and bunch of other stuff~ anyway as long as people have fun so be it~ btw usually rose are thorny (yes there genetic alteration on agriculture that make roses less thorny) so it can also mean not really romantic~ its like say a person as beautiful as moon, the moon actually have plenty of holes on it "face" so it can be used as mockery~ potato can be poison heck early westerners poisoned by potato cuz dunno how to eat potato no?
...just remove the sprouts, gouge out the eyes, and skin the potato. It's not hard. Diamonds are far worse than roses though.
She grilled you for forgetting the flowers? Trust me, don't give potatoes.... they hardly decide anything over reason in this matter.
I think flowers are a waste in general. Unless you buy a flower plant(s) that will keep giving flowers. Grow that and show someone how much you love them by giving flowers from that~
Oh come on It's the gesture itself that makes it nice to have roses. Depends ok the intent too. If it's half ass given I don't want it
The rose is, first of all, a symbol. There are many things in this world that will be thrown away if people try to see them as useful things rather than as beautiful symbols. Songs, books, films, paintings, sculptures.
