Man,you should better go watch Rurouni Kenshin right away coz in my opinion thats one of succesful anime live action adaptations.The trilogy movie is quite succesfull

Hmm... Well, judging from the story of Ghost in the Shell, it can work. I mean look at "The Matrix", it's heavily influenced by Ghost in the Shell and it worked. Aside from Japanese characters/names/places, the theme of the story can be kept even if it's "Americanized". The origins of Motoko Kusanagi/"The Major" remains mostly a mystery and her body is completely cybernetic which means she can have any look created for her. At the end of the day it's a western adaptation by a western company. Scarlett Johansson also has a track record of playing sexy badass strong female leads so I think that it will be fine if she plays as a sexy badass strong female character.

 

making live action that no one asked. duh.
